Since all the former timeline topics are too far back to be bumped, and we have some new users who post in this section - I decided to start a new one.
I maintain the events of the series takes place between 1981 and 1983 - even though I may have to adjust the birthdays of the Baudelaires.
There are two reasons why I decided to pick that time period. One is the fact that I decided that the Quagmire boys would, essentially, replace Marty McFly.
The other was because of the neatly detailed timeline I came up regarding the disintegration of the VFD.
1948: This is the year when Kit Snicket would be four, since I figured 1945 was a good year to place Lemony Snicket's birth. The sinister duo turns on the VFD - and, throughout the years, they convince others (both VFD and non-VFD members) to join them.
1965: Well, let's face it. It's a pretty meaningful year in a very tumultuous decade, and two years before Violet was born. This when the the sinister duo's group has grown big enough to be a threat to the VFD - and, thus, the schism is recognized.
1982: According to my timeline, it was the year when the Hotel Denouement fire occurred - which would probably shake things up even more for the VFD.
1999: It's the year that The Bad Beginning was released in "our" world. I figured that it was a good year for the VFD to dissolve, for once and for all. After that, the VFD would no longer have to remain being a secret.
It sounds as if the new series will take place before the Baudelaires were born - which, according to my timeline, could set that series in the 1960s. Then again, we know that Lemony Snicket is not a very reliable person. Perhaps, the new series will just take place before Sunny was born - and then that series could be set in the 1970s. I guess the clue would be in whether or not the VFD schism has yet occurred in the new series.

Why are you having the VFD disintigrate? Is the Volunteer Fire Department going to dissolve too? I think they would still be needed to put out fires.

You do present some good points, and I can't argue with that. Maybe, rather than disintegrating entirely - they change a few characteristics. Such as, maybe the group no longer being a secret - and no longer kidnapping small children from their families. Maybe, instead, all new members of the group are actual volunteers - and they focus of putting out fires and supporting other causes. How would that sound?
It's mostly the "kidnapping small children from their families" part that just never sat well with me.

I will post mine as soon as possible, meaning I will try and do it this evening (perhaps). But mostly it'll be births and deaths, nothing really to do with VFD.

This is a fascinating timeline, Quags. I like the idea of the "sinister duo" being the ones responsible for the downfall of V.F.D. They're so secretive, and everyone is so frightened of them, that it seems more than likely they'd be behind the schism. beth: I can't wait to read your timeline! ^^ Which reminds me: I need to repost/revamp mine, too.

So what happens to the Quagmire triplets in your ficverse, LSWannaBe?
I also think it's neat how you have the end of the VFD occur at the start of WWII. I figured that the VFD would least for another 17 years after the end, which would coincide with the year The Bad Beginning was released in "our" world. Although, per freebird's suggestions, I might reconsider what the final fate of the VFD is. Perhaps, they might just end up redefining their organization - and, since all new members would be true volunteers, the chances of another schism occurring would be very minimal.
I see you also have Carmelita be two years younger than Klaus, so I'll keep it that way for my ficverse - which means, according to my timeline, she'd be born in 1971.

I'm not sure. But I do know that the Baudelaires never met them again.

Are you not a big fan of the Quagmires?
It was actually a friend's idea to have the Quagmires portrayed by Michael J Fox and Lea Thompson, so I opted to do the same. That friend has since changed her mind - so it looks like I'm the only one left who has them portrayed that way.

I like them, I just don't know what to do with them. Same with Carmelita.

I guess I'm just a big fan of Quigley/Violet - and probably still would be, even if not for "Quagmire boys as stand-ins for Marty McFly" factor. And I also like Klaus/Isadora. I like the idea of have two couples between the same two family.
I actually wouldn't be against Duncan/Fiona - but I already planned to pair Duncan up with Jennifer Parker. Most of the BTTF character characters do exist in my ASOUE ficverse - except for Marty McFly (replaced with Quagmire boys) and George McFly (replaced with Jerome Squalor). Doc Brown still exists, as does Jennifer Parker. Also, considering that Doc is both wealthy and highly intelligent, I figured that it would only be fitting to have him as a VFD volunteer.

@quags: I like how you've given Lemony Snicket the same birthday as Daniel Handler, just in a different year. beth: Your timeline turned out great! It took me forever to do mine, as well (all that math!). And you have an Andrew Squalor in your ficverse, too, I see. Is he Jerome's brother, or a cousin? I was about to ask how Esme died, before I realized she would be almost ninety years old by then. Seymour Glass: You did an excellent job on your timeline. I like how you've provided dates to the events mentioned in the canon, such as the Baudelaires going to visit the county fair.
