This chapter has suffered from the fact that the main story - piotn of this chapter has been oved to later in the story, do the chapter is a bit redundent. I think you'll like the ending though.
Chapter 2
Unless you have been very very lucky, I am sure you have been disappointed many times in your life. Violet, for example, had been disappointed when she had hoped to be reunited with Quigley, a boy of her age with whom she was friendly, but had instead opened the taxi door to find Kit Snicket. Klaus had been disappointed when he hoped Fiona, a girl of his age with whom he was friendly, would help them escape from one of olaf’s malevolent plots, but instead had betrayed the Baudelaires by joining with Olaf. Sunny had been disappointed when she thought the Baudelaires would finally be safe from their life of misfortune when she and her siblings where with Dewey, Justice Strauss, and Jerome Squalor at Hotel Denouement, only for the entire building, and her hopes, to go up in flames. Beatrice, was only a baby, of course, so was to young to have faced disappointment. But the Baudelaires knew how disappointed she would be when she learned her real parents were dead, instead of being alive and well. I had been disappointed when I had believed my sworn enemy dead, only to find him alive, under my bed, and I was forced to say ‘Issac, get out from under there. You are my brother for gods sake’
The Baudelaires had faced disappointment once today, when they had learned Mr Poe was unavailable, due to having been kidnapped by Esme Squalor, for unknown reasons, so the Baudelaires where now hoping they would not have to face disappointment again any time soon.
Following the revelation laced with disappointment, the Baudelaires knew they only had one other option - they had to find Justice Strauss. If she was was alive, that is.
They had taken a ride in another taxi, and headed back to where the Baudelaires unfortunate events had begun,
‘I just don’t see the point violet’, Klaus said as the driver dropped the Baudelaires at the end of the cobbled street.
‘what do you mean?’ Violet hoisted Beatrice into her arms, and they began walking down the street.
‘I mean, the last time we saw her she put us on trial, and we nearly died for it.’
‘Klaus!’
‘What’
‘The fire was out fault. We started it.’
‘No we didn’t’ said sunny. And its was true. Count Olaf had begun the fire in the basement of hotel denouement, but the Baudelaires had not tried to stop him, but the Baudelaires lives had still been put at risk.
‘Regardless’ Violet continued ‘It wasn’t her fault that we helped cause a fire. We shouldn’t blame her.’
‘We should.’
‘What is wrong with you?’
‘Nothings wrong with me! Im just… being cautious.’
They had reached justice Strauss’ house. Klaus spoke ‘What I mean, is that its too much of a risk. I don’t mean the fire - I mean The judges.’
By judges, Klaus, for course meant two mysterious and evil people, whose names I can scarcely bare to type. The Man with a Beard but no hair, and the woman with hair but no beard, also known as the sinister duo, were two people so evil I can barely stand to talk about them, but I must, for that Is how the story goes. The Sinister Duo had disguised themselves as judges at the high court, and had plotted to send the Baudelaires to jail. But, the Baudelaires gad seen through their ruse, a phrase which here means ‘Realised who the judges where, and had managed to escape the hotel before they had been captured.’
‘What worries me is that Justice Strauss will want to put us on trial, and then we will have to face those two strange people again.’
‘They give me the creeps’ said sunny
‘Cepra’ Shrieked Beatrice. Which meant something like ‘I have no idea what you’re talking about.’
‘Klaus, we have no other option.; Insisted violet.
‘Yes we do. We could go home.’
‘What do you mean?’
‘I mean if we go back home, we wont be in any trouble.’
‘But, Klaus. We are going home. This city used to be our home, and it can be again.. Once we receive our fortune we can live the life we’ve always wanted, Klaus.. We’ve been hiding in that town for the last two years Klaus, and we cant hide any longer. I know Justice Strauss might put us on trial, and that’s a risk but it’s a risk im willing to take’
‘There’s no risk, Baudelaires.’ Justice Strauss stood in the doorway of her home staring at the baud ales wide eyed. ‘I’m putting you on trial no matter what you think.’
And the Baudelaires were disappointed once more
