February 25, 2009, 667 reached 700,000 posts. Three days ago, we topped that with another 100,000. How soon can we expect to reach 900,000? More than that, and onto the topic of this report, how soon can we expect to reach 1,000,000? The goal is June 22, 2015. In practice, we are aiming to double the amount of posts in half the time. (It took 667 1,415 days to make 100,000 posts.) However, it is also worth considering that in years 2009 until late 2012, the latest major Lemony Snicket work was The End. Discussion waned, people left, and slowly the demise of Burdensome Books was mirrored in other sections. Now, however, with the arrival of a new Snicket work and an influx of animated new members, this goal is far more manageable. In fact, in the past three days, together we’ve averaged 257 posts a day. At that rate, by this time in 2015 we’ll already have made 187,610 additional posts. Certainly, these statistics are promising – but we must maintain consistency. To reach 1,000,000 posts by the target date, we should average about 6667 posts a month, or around 1,666 posts a week, which approximates to 238 posts a day. Possible implementations to ensure this goal is reached: - A set of members could commit to making 10 posts per day
- Regulate the creation of threads such that seven intriguing topics are posted per week
- Theme days/weeks (but not too often)
- Monthly reports on standings
In summary, then: We are trying to reach one million posts by 667's 13th anniversary. To do so about 238 posts must be made a day. It is manageable.

Okay. Seven interesting topics. I assume that this week's seven were the "What fruit are you", "What candy bar are you" etc.
We should use the 667 calendar to mark down which days/weeks are theme days/weeks.

We should use the 667 calendar to mark down which days/weeks are theme days/weeks. Great idea, Charlie. I'll make a note of that. I didn't have anything specific in mind with "Seven interesting topics," but I think having a thread quota should prove an interesting way to encourage innovation.

You should have never brought this up. Do we really want people making useless post just to reach that goal?

You should have never brought this up. Do we really want people making useless post just to reach that goal? Yeah, like the 800,000th post.

That didn't quite happen with the 800,000th post, but "a group of members commited to making ten posts a day"? I see where this is going.

No I was saying the 800000th post was a useless post.

A marvellously useless post. Also, I think "dedicated to making ten posts" Is kind of better stated as "dedicated to contribute to the forum once a day". Y'know, not just in "Guys vs Girls", "Relentless Counting", "Rate the Avatar" etc. Also, thanks Sherry Ann! I've thought that the calendar needed sprucing up for a while now. We'll wait and see what Trag decides

I don't see what our community should gain from having posted 1,000,000 posts if the last couple thousand are borderline spam. In that spirit, this is my 1000th post. Have a nice day.
EDIT: Yeaaah, baby, I'm a False Fortune-Teller now.

I think we should just post when we want to say something and not count and plan or posts, because it doesn't work anyway.

It would be nice to reach one million posts by the 13th anniversary but this isn't the way to go about it.
Focus on attracting new members and making quality posts that stimulate discussion, and the milestone will come naturally.
