now i know this is a topic that has been discussed numerous times but ive decided to start it up again....if ne one has ne ideas as too the secret of what the sugar is for plz post here
As for me: I believe that the sugar bowl contains a list of all the members of VFD ont he other side of the schism and Olaf wants it to find out where they live so he can burn all of their houses down...i know this isnt very exciting but it would make sense as too why one side wants to hide it and why olaf wants it so bad...thats my theory now post yours

I've always thought the sugar bowl contained some sort of evidence against Olaf--a written message, or possibly tape recording--and he wants it so he can destroy it. More generally, I think sugar bowls are used to hide messages of various sorts.

Maybe it's a message to some top-secret vault that has important things in it (which Olaf no doubt would want), rather than just money.

Ok, this is pretty far-fetched, but lets think of something that has clear evidence of how bad Olaf is and contains all of his crimes. That would be books called A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. Wouldnt that be weird if that were in the sugar bowl?

....... yes, but funny in a sort of cosmic way:
"Klaus, look at this!" Violet shifted through the pages of the document she had just found. Klaus perused the title and flipped the pages. "Wait a second..... this is about US. 'A Series of Unfortunate Events, by.....'" Klaus' eyes widened in shock. "Lemony Snicket? Where have I heard that name before....."
Meh, that's only a snippet...... hehe..... Someone also speculated a Lemony/Baudelaire meeting.

thats a pretty good snippet, that would be very awkward if that happened.

I don't have any evidence to back my theory up but i thought it would be pretty neat if the sugarbowl contained either an engagement ring or a the baudelaire parent's will

I don' think a will or a ring can put Olaf away...in my oppinion it is a document with all of the good side schism's volunteer's signatures on it except for a few and Olaf wants to find it so he can rid of the document and VFD wants it as to sign it and lock Olaf away or something like that...who knows though

We have an old sugar bowl thread back here, but I guess a lot of old discussions will get restarted due to evidence from B12, so we might as well restart this one now. The old one hadn't been posted in for several months. Things which Snicket said in TSS seem to indicate that there's some sort of absolute proof against Olaf (and possibly his accomplices) inside. I'm thinking perhaps a letter he wrote - maybe a photograph, although the U.A. index lists photographs as "doubtful evidence." A wedding ring would be interesting, though, or some other mysterious item that is actually the key to it all. I also think that the sugar bowl is used for passing around messages at volunteer dinner parties, or for recording messages.

Perhaps Olaf forged the will so it'd be easier to get at the Bauds, then burnt their house down and Mr. Poe thought it was real. The REAL one could be in the sugar bowl, along with a copy of the fake one.

Anyway, you might want to look in the Conflicting Conjectures forum; there's a thread on the sugar bowl and I think it's very plausable.

Is it possible that the sugar bowl is a code-word for something else, like the Baudelaire orphans plan to use foods as code-words.

Personally, I don't think the words "sugar bowl" are code for anything in particular. However, they're obviously significant to VFDers who know the secret.

I think it's a red herring.
