Hi...Can someone help me... That rather depends on what you'd like help with. If it's something not related to the topic at hand, though - how Olaf is related to the Baudelaires - then you might be better off making a new thread for it in an appropriate section (read the board descriptions on the main page) or PMing a moderator through their profile. Also, in future, don't make two consecutive posts in one thread before somebody's replied to you; it doesn't actually help you any, and it's against the rules. You can add to a post with the Modify button in the upper-right corner of your post.

This to me, is very puzzling. Does any one know what VFD means? I know its very hard to find out! VFD actually stands for vollenteer fire department [something along those lines!]

Well if you have read the last book you know about kit and olaf. The Snickets and Baudelaires are very good friends.
Either that or he lied.

This would be a terrible twist, but what if the Baudelaire's are actully Olaf's kids??? I mean, Beatrice loved Lemony, but married Bertrand. She has been known to be devious to men, as in this example. Maybe she broke up with Lemony, married Olaf, divorced Olaf, married Bertrand?

Actually, it's generally agreed that she's Dewey's child. TPP specifies that Dewey "left the woman he loved distraught and pregnant", and it's implied that Kit and Olaf were in love some years ago, evidently some time before she assisted the murder of Olaf's parents. That would rule out Kit being pregnant with Olaf's child. And I doubt that Mother Beatrice was ever married to Olaf, as I'm not sure when she'd have had the chance to get divorced and remarried, if she and Bertrand lived on the island for some years and, if I recall properly, left not long before Violet was born. Having that happen would needlessly complicate things.

I think that Eleanora Poe managed to switch up the will, or something like that. After all, she is pur evil, as we find out in UA.

Eleanora isn't evil, as her telegram to her brother indicates. She's just gullible, evidently a family trait. ---- I had a theory at one point that there were several Baudelaire relatives in The City, but Olaf killed them all before TBB in order to ensure the orphans would end up in his care. This was strengthened when it was strongly suggested in TPP that the Baudelaire parents killed Olaf's. This would give him a grudge against their entire family, as well as the "close but separate" Snickets.

"The only other student in that I know is O."TBL, this quote implies that Lemony knew O. or Olaf. Before school so possibly a cousin?
But on the other hand, in the end of the end he kisses Kit Snicket and mentions that he has done it before, which means they most likely not cousins.

Olaf is an evil guy, he can't be related to the kids. Relatives don't try to hurt each other. And he was just the "closest" relative that's why they had to live with him.

Olaf is an evil guy, he can't be related to the kids. Relatives don't try to hurt each other. Er, no, that's simply not true, not even in Snicket's world. In the books, siblings tend to remain allies, but just look at the Denouements for a counterexample-- Ernest is on the other side of the schism from his brothers. However, it's kind of a moot point because Olaf's relation to the Baudelaires, whether or not it exists, serves only to bring him into the story.

well personally i dont think he is related because he tries to marry violet and if she was married a) incest..ewwww &b) he wouldnt need to marry her to get the fortune.
also can i point out this post:
seems to me to be wrong because it's Kit that's dead (TE)
i dont think Olaf messed with the will, i just think VFDers considered other members as family so thats were relative came in & Mr Poe didnt know that Olaf was evil, so when the will says to place the children with a guardian (who is convient) he does as he is told, it just so happens that Olaf is closest...no ones fault.
Reason for Editing: I was trying to get boldness.

well personally i dont think he is related because he tries to marry violet and if she was married a) incest..ewwww &b) he wouldnt need to marry her to get the fortune. Third cousin four times removed and fourth cousin three times removed is rather a distant relation, and it looks like Olaf was only really interested in the fortune, given that most of the time he doesn't seem too concerned about which Baudelaire lives and which dies. I don't think he really thinks of the children as family - more as a money tree. A very stubborn tree, but Olaf is a big believer in carrot-and-stick theory. That said, TBB's been banned in places because of incest connotations. At the time of writing, The End wasn't out, so it was just Jacques who was dead (TVV). And Lemony's been reported dead before, too, but of course we know he isn't. I rather agree with this; I don't see any reason why Mr. Poe would be familiar with Olaf. In TBB, Mr. Poe knows that Count Olaf is both a count and an actor who travels the world giving performances; sounds respectable enough to me, and Mr. Poe also has the disadvantage of being very dim, very prone to taking things at face value. If he does travel the world a lot, the possibility of the Baudelaire children ending up with Olaf as a guardian might have seemed wildly improbable to the Baudelaire parents - and I don't think the Baudelaire parents anticipated their deaths with any immediacy; they probably wrote the will many years before the series started, as one of those idle just-in-cases, although they'll perhaps also have suspected, being members of V.F.D., that were they to die it probably wouldn't be an accident. Count Olaf was never even the biggest threat to V.F.D., and the Baudelaires, as we see in Dr. Montgomery and the Anwhistles, had several much more reliable relatives, and even ordinary friends like Jerome Squalor and the Snickets. The series emphasises the terrible, terrible, and indeed improbable bad luck of the Baudelaire orphans; I think I'd be inclined to regard that as the best explanation of why they ended up in Count Olaf's "care."

This to me, is very puzzling. Does any one know what VFD means? I know its very hard to find out! (1) VFD doesn't stand for anything. It stands for things that are INCLUDED in VFD(like CE in WinCE) (2) VFD does stand for something but we don't know.
