I apologise if this topic has already been discussed.
If the car crash never happened, Mr Poe would've found Uncle Monty's corpse and wondered what happened to the Baudelaires.
What else do you think would've happened - discuss.

Actually, TRR doesn't make it entirely clear where Mr Poe was headed in his car, and doesn't state he was going to Monty's house. And if the car crash hadn't happened, it's entirely possible that the Baudelaires would have ended up going to Peru(or wherever the Prospero was going, possibly a VFD sanctuary someplace). This might introduce us to the VFD mysteries much earlier and in a different manner, although more likely it'd take the series in a new direction and possibly end it quickly, as Handler probably hadn't thought of VFD that early.

Actually, it does say in TRR where Mr. Poe was headed. "Yes, I know," Mr. Poe said. "That's why I hurried over here this morning, to finally bring them their luggage." Page 104
I have to agree with Antenora. Even though I'm sure DH hadn't come up with VFD, I think it would have been interesting if they went to some sort of "VFD Sanctuary." I assume they'd probably have to use their wits to stop Olaf from burning it down and probably run around the jungle a bit.

At one point I tried to write an alternate ending to TRR that ended in that way, with the Baudelaires and Olaf going to Peru. They didn't make it. They crash-landed on a desert island. I never got around to writing it, though.
