Chapter One
The night was dark and all the outlines of the vast, bustling city were sketchy and hard to make out from the outskirts. Unfortunately for them, that's where our hero and heroines were.
J snuck out ahead of the group, darting in between different tombstones. They were in a graveyard.
"Up here," she hissed, leaning up against the wall of a tomb. J had recently been trained in the art of Ninjitsu by her friend, Trebor. J had always been rather bossy, but she thought she was queen of the world with this new-found talent on her hands.
"We're coming," said Robert behind her. Robert was J's best friend, but he had to admit that her bossiness was getting on his nerves just a little.
"Well," J said, staring at Robert as he jogged up to where he was, a few other's trailing behind him. "Hurry up."
She stroked the side of the entrance to the tomb. This was code for "get in before I beat you senseless."
Robert tip-toed into the room, followed by CCV. But M stayed behind. She cocked her head to the side and glared at J, as if to say why this one?
"Just go," said J in a voice so dangerous that a lion would wimper, yet not even a dog would be able to hear if he were not listening for it. M scampered into the tomb hastily. J smirked to herself, but nobody could see in the dark, even if they were looking for it.
Robert looked around the decaying and cryptic corridor they were now in as well as he could. It was too dark to really see anything other than the fact that it seemed to go on for a great while.
"What now?" he asked as J trudged silently down the steps.
"Guys," said CCV, trying to choke up the courage to be heard. "Let's go back. Please."
J looked at Robert with a sly grin and he nodded. J reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a shiny, black pistol, aiming it at CCV's head.
"Shut up or I'll blow you back to Hell, where you belong."
CCV let out a faint squeak, but said nothing.
"Now that that's settled," said J, drawing her pistol away from CCV's skull. "Let's get moving."
J put her pistol back in her coat pocket and withdrew a flashlight, aiming it straight down the corridor. Illuminating the hallway helped nothing and they could tell just as much as before. J sighed and started up the corridor, everyone else trailing behind her.
J held her hand out to stop them from continuing, shining her light ahead of her. The straight path had stopped and turned into a plain stone wall. J walked up to it slowly and inspected it.
"What is it?" asked Robert, stepping forward.
"It's a wall, retard," said J, rolling her eyes.
"I got that, but what's it doing in the middle of the path?"
"Well," J said, feeling around the wall. "I assume to block trespassers. But it could very well just be a sealed-off tomb with the body already removed."
M came up to help J inspect the wall. CCV, realizing she was the only one still in the dark, jumped forward suddenly and unexpectedly. Everyone but Robert, who was taken aback by this sudden movement, chuckled.
"Well," said J, a hint of finality in her voice. "I don't think there's any point in going any further here. There's nothing to see." Robert let out a large sigh.
"Well," said Robert, "Let's at least get a little rest before we moved on."
Everybody but CCV sat down on the cold, marble floor. CCV leaned on the wall.
"C'mon, guys," she said, "There's nothing in these tombs. Let's just--" Click!
The wall opened side-ways and CCV fell through to the other side.
"--go home."
"Well," said J as everyone stood up, "At least you're good for something."
M helped CCV up and they all continued into the next room, J shining her flashlight ahead of them. There was a beautiful stone sarcophagus in the middle of the room with a magnificently ornate mirror on the top.
"What the hell is this?" asked J, going up to the tomb to get a better look.
"It looks like a sarcophagus," said Robert. J scoffed and motioned for M to come over.
"What does this say?" J asked M, pointing to some form of hieroglyphics. M always knew random things like this.
"Give me a second," M said. J wandered over to the side of the tomb to inspect the mirror with her flashlight.
"When the light shines on the third day, all shall be lain to rubble..." M thought about this, then turned to Robert. "What day is it?"
Robert knew not to question M when she was thinking. "Tuesday."
Sweat began to pour down M's forehead like a fountain as she turned to J, screaming "NO!" at the top of her lungs. But it was too late. J had already shone her flashlight into the mirror, setting off a chain reaction of mirrors all over the tomb. At the very top of the tomb, a gigantic mirror shined down upon the sarcophagus and the lid started to rattle, then stopped as J pulled flashlight away from the mirror, causing the light to stop. M breathed a sigh of relief.
Then the lid flew off the sarcophagus, clear over their heads. CCV screamed as a zombie marched out of it, his rotting flesh barely hanging from his broken bones. He let out a shrill cry and soon he was joined by several others of his own kind.
"RUN!" yelled J, bolting toward the corridor as fast as she could, the rest right on her tail.
"Help," said CCV meekly as she fell behind. Robert tried to put a hand back to save her, but M stopped him.
"It's too late for her."
