I decided to write a story based on Fiddler on the Roof, with 667 members as characters. (Note: Songs will appear in capital letters.)
Setting: Anatevka, a small village in Russia, consisting of both the lovers and haters of books. Early 1900s. Who knows what could happen...?
Cast:
Tevye: Tragedy
Golde (Tevye's wife): Swans
Tevye's daughters:
Tzeitel: Antenora
Hodel: Pandora
Chava: Char
Shprintze: Freshie
Bielke: CCV
Yente (Matchmaker): Celinra
Motel (Tailor): FFWF
Perchik (Student from Kiev): Dupin
Lazar Wolf (Butcher): Snicket
Mordcha (Innkeeper): RockSunner
Rabbi: MynamesJacques
Mendel (Rabbi's Son): LeGrey Intellectual
Avram (is going to be female)(Bookseller): SnicketFires
Constable: PJ
Fyedka: Derik
Sasha (is also going to be female): Kimia
Yussel (is going to be female whether he/she likes it or not): Ashley
Fiddler (who will actually be a person who reads...): BSam
Villagers:...If you would like to be included as a villager, please post here.
I think that I will post using usernames rather than character names, in order to avoid confusion.
Prologue
The Scene: Outside of Tragedy's house. BSam is seated on the roof, reading.
TRAGEDY: A normal citizen of our village, Anatevka, on the roof, reading. Sounds crazy, no? But here in our humble little town, you could say that we're all like him. We're always reading, wherever we go. Some say we're strange, to read all the time. Of course, none of these people are particularly intelligent; that much I can tell you. Why do we bother reading on the roof, and how do we keep out balance up there? That I can tell you in one word---Tradition!
VILLAGERS: TRADITION, TRADITION---TRADITION
TRADITION, TRADITION---TRADITION
TRAGEDY: Here in Anatevka, we don't only have traditions for reading. We dress the same way, eat the same way, and have our matchmaker, Yente, find suitable matches for our children. Because of our traditions, every one of us feels secure, and knows what is expected of him in the community.
TRAGEDY, 667 VETERANS: WHO DAY AND NIGHT MUST KEEP THE VILLAGE STABLE
DO WHAT WE ARE ABLE
TO MAKE THINGS SEEM ALRIGHT?
AND WHO HAS THE RIGHT,
TO ALL OF THE RESPECT,
AND A PLACE OF HONOR IN THE TOWN?
VILLAGERS: THE VETERANS, THE VETERANS---TRADITION
THE VETERANS, THE VETERANS---TRADITION
NEWER MEMBERS: WHO MUST KNOW THE RULES TO EVERY SITUATION,
AND TRY TO LEARN WHAT WE KNOW WE SHOULD?
WHO MUST READ ALL BOOKS
AND LISTEN TO THE VETERANS
TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE ACCEPTED SOON?
VILLAGERS: THE NEWBIES, THE NEWBIES---TRADITION
THE NEWBIES, THE NEWBIES---TRADITION!
TRAGEDY: Tradition. Without our traditions, we wouldn't all get along so perfectly together. In fact, without our traditions, life in our village would be as shaky as...as BSam reading on the roof!
(All characters exit)
I know the prologue wasn't very good, but I promise that things will get better in the later scenes. Please let me know if you would like to me included as a villager. Thank you.
Edit: Upon Derik'sthreatening demand kind request, FFWF will be Motel, and Snicket will be Lazar.
