Luis, having put on his winter coat, left the airport.
A lot can change in ten days.
Ten days ago, if you had told him he would have flown to New York for some girl, he would have laughed at you.
That was ten days ago.
As it was, Luis was bundled up tightly and headed into Penn Station. Tourists with twenty carpet bags got in his way, homeless men begged for money as he passed the pretzel stand, but Luis didn't care. There was only one thing on his mind.
The girl. The Mysterious Lady.
They were to meet, and it would be soon.
This would be the defining moment of his life, he knew it.
There she was, standing next to the statue of Balto, with his dull coat and shiny, shiny nose.
With her back turned, he could observe her, the love of his life, without being noticed. He didn't want her attention just yet. In his old life, he was an observer. This was the final transition from observer to key player.
She was the facilitator of this change.
His nerves thrilled with every breath she took, every movement of her hair in the chilling breeze, every curve and contortion of her body.
Then she turned around, and their eyes met.
"L..Luis?" she stuttered, taking a step back. "LUIS!"
This was it.
"J, I love you."
"And not M?"
"Who's that? You're my J...ysterious Lady"
I'd apologize for all badness, but I had fun writing it.
