Grupin – A tale of Woe and Murder
They had been together for quite a while, now. Unfortunately, Dupin had decided that the “magic” had long left their relationship. So he decided to have a talk with Gretchen.
He was sitting on the couch, looking decidedly unhappy.
“What’s wrong?” Gretchen asked, slipping into the couch beside him.
“I’m sorry, Gretchen…but I don’t think this relationship is going to work anymore.”
Dupin should have been wary. “That” look came into Gretchen’s eye. The dangerous one.
“Why?” She asked, downcast. She had been heartbroken when Brent had left her, but Dupin had been so kind and loving…she didn’t want to lose him, too.
“Well…it’s just…you’re a zombie. I’m human.” Dupin said, looking and feeling uncomfortable.
“So?”
“Well…when we go to…zombie restaurants, I just sit there, whilst you have fun with your friends. I’m also usually hungry, cos there’s nothing there for humans.”
“We can go to other restaurants!” Gretchen said unhappily.
“Well…we’re just too…different. You have your zombie tastes, I have my human tastes. It’s just conflicting, and hard to deal with.”
“So…so…you’re dumping me…cos I’m a zombie?” Gretchen said, tears forming in her eyes.
“Well…yes.” Dupin said, patting her on the back. Gretchen sobbed loudly, and ran out of the room.
“Wait!” Dupin shouted, but when he went to find her, she had locked herself in their room, and wouldn’t come out.
Miserably, Dupin went to sleep on the couch. Had he been wrong to break up with her? She was nice, and cute, and very creative…he pondered his decision. Then he heard a sound.
“Gretchen?” He called, into the darkness.
“Is that you?” Gretchen stepped into view, smiling strangely. Dupin could tell something was not right.
“What are you doing?” He asked, his voice quavering.
Without a sound, Gretchen leapt at him, and the last thing Dupin saw was the shiny knife in her hand.
*******************
He awoke. He sat up. He felt strange. He opened his eyes, and everything was blurry. A figure stood before him.
He meant to say “what”, but only managed a moan.
“You’ve awoken!” Gretchen said, gleefully.
“Who?” he managed to groan.
“Your name is Dupin, Dupin. You died, recently, and are now a zombie.”
“How?”
“That’s not important. What’s important is that we fill the memories lost through your death.”
Dupin blinked, confused. What was happening? Who was he? Who was this girl in front of him? How had he died?
“My name is Gretchen. And I am your mistress, Dupin. Say it. Say I am your mistress.”
“You are…you are my mistress.” Dupin said, still confused.
“You will obey me. Without question. Say it.”
“I will obey.”
“It has always been like this. You have always been my slave.”
“I have always been your slave.”
Gretchen smiled evilly.
“Good. You’re already learning more about your past, Dupin. Very good. When you are good, Dupin, you will be rewarded.” She kissed him.
“That was nice, wasn’t it?” She said, still smiling. Zombie Dupin nodded, a slight smile forming on his face.
“There’s more where that came from. If you obey me.”
“I obey.”
As it turned out, Gretchen had saved their relationship, and the two lived relatively happily ever after.
The End
