That's quite sad, but not entirely unexpected. UE.com as a whole was never as well-updated as it could have been - to follow the site, you'd never have known TBL existed - and it was down at year's end a couple of years ago because Egmont forgot to renew the license. I imagine the forum as a whole became - well, not exactly more trouble than it was worth, but not really worth what it claimed to be. As the announcement indicates, it wasn't serving its purpose as an official forum, and from the perspective of a busy publishing company, a community forum is probably something best handled unofficially. Besides, all Snicket-related discourse is on the wane at the moment until he starts publishing a new series. That'll be either the time to start over with a fresh website and a fresh set of priorities, or to just let the unofficial websites handle it. (While it is just the forum closing down, I shouldn't be surprised if the entire UE.com site was wound down as well.)

Yeah, I was never on the forum myself, but still, they're loosing interest in a great series. If they cared they would have updated it more. But I guess all good things must come to an end. It's the way of life.
Kinda sad though.

Of course, they've had a back-up ProBoard set up for just such an occasion ever since Egmont forgot to renew the website one year.

Does anyone know of any other active Lemony Snicket message boards?

No. The Quiet World was working. Then something happened to the boards. There was this board, but then... I also think there was Snickwiki, but some weird "Error" happened.

UE Hideaway. Apparently also has a redirect set up from UEHideaway.co.uk.

Latest post on The Quiet World:
Hey everyone, As you've noticed, the forum isn't working. I tried my best to make it work again but after various attempts and no result I decided ultimately that I would not resurrect it. The solution would have involved a migration to a more expensive hosting package, and seeing as the website stopped paying for itself months ago I don't have the money to continue hosting it. As much as I hate to admit it, I've lost the interest I once held for the series. I'll keep this website up as a resource but I won't be resurrecting the forum in the near future. - Michael
