I started reading this with some suspicion, as the opening struck me as extremely prone to over-reading and some improbable conclusions. However, the body of the essay was a great improvement - it highlighted items I hadn't entirely thought about, and overall is an extremely interesting read even if it can be something of an overinterpretation. Excellent post, Nanaki Everblaze, and I'm going to post a link to this essay in Conflicting Conjectures.

Very interesting. One thing that it points up very clearly is Olaf's attraction to Violet; up to now I had tended to support the view that the marriage was just a sham to get the fortune, but after reading that I don't think I can believe that any more. Hmm.

You can't discuss in a CConjectures thread, so there's no reason to close this one. And I'm not sure you're actually able to take threads down.

I notice he does recognise a kind of Klaus/Isadora - at least he sees their holding hands as having some sexual significance. I do wonder about his reading of 'Sappho', though. If it's meant to point to lesbianism in some way, it doesn't seem to lead anywhere. And he doesn't seem to have noticed Sir/Charles.

Room 176 at the Hotel Denouement - what's that? It can't be the room Sir and Charles were in.
[Checks in Dastardly Documents.]
Good heavens! What are we to make of that?
