Characters's Names in YASoUE
This contains spoilers for YASoUE up until The Weary Wasteland. If you haven't read it, don't read this.Example:
Book in which the character appears
Character's Name - Origin of the name
The Fearsome Factory -
Cindry Fulfillment - named after a character from One Piece, Victoria Cindry, after which Cindry' aunt Victoria is also named for. The One Piece Cindry was a zombie with the shadow of a girl who hated plates because her fiancé broke up with her because she broke one of his treasured plates.
Ferdinand Fulfillment - Named after archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, whose murder was the direct cause of World War I.
Victoria Fulfillment - See Cindry Fulfillment.
Foreman Ferguson - You know how there was a Foreman Flacutono in The Miserable Mill? Ferguson is a play on that character, but is another character entirely.
Laverne - Named after one of the nurses from Scrubs, who was one of my favorite characters.
The Mysterious Manor -
Mortimer Montague - first name has to do with death, second name is from a book called Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror by Chris Priestley, a favorite of mine.
Harold Potter - Do I really need to explain this one?
Annabelle Rice - Named after Anne Rice, notorious vampire fiction author, and Edgar Allan Poe's Annabell Lee poem at the same time. The fact that she is named after Anne Rice is why this character sleeps during the day and stays awake at night, in the story.
Lars Gabriel - named after brazillian yachting athlete, Lars Grael. His full name is revealed in TJJ.
Agatha - See
Christie.
Christie - See
Agatha.
The Shivery Shrine -
Elizabeth Anwhistle - named after the heroine of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Elizabeth Swann, who becomes a pirate in the second movie.
Wayne Watson - Named after Bruce Wayne, Batman's secret identity, and the reason Wayne is a baticeer.
Will Watson - Named also after a Pirates of the Caribbean character, who is also a traitor (and who I did NOT like when watching the movies, so that's why I named a villain after him.
Captain Stubb - Two words. Moby Dick.
The Catastrophic Casino -
Carlo Alberto Casanova - For alliteration. Casanova comes from one of Venice's most notorious citizens, Giacomo Casanova, who was a notorious womanizer. This reflects itself in Carlo's lust for Esmé.
Caterina Angelina Casanova - Named after Caterina Sforza, an italian noblewoman, and Angelina Jolie, actress. Her character is based on the White Queen from Alice Through the Looking Glass and the 2010 Alice in Wonderland film.
Carlotta Clarissa Casanova - Named after Carlo, but her character is based around The Duchess from Alice in Wonderland.
Felix Fernando Casanova - Felix is 'feline', and Felix is a character based in the Cheshire Cat. Fernando is from the song 'Alejandro' by Lady GaGa.
Umberto - I wanted a name that sounded like Humpty Dumpty, from Alice in Wonderland, around who this character is built on.
Hattie - Mad Hatter, anyone?
Bonnie - Bonnie can sound like bunny, which reminds you of hares. March Hare.
The Jeopardized Jungle -
Juno Boreas - After the movie, Juno, which then again is named for the Roman Goddess, Juno, who was wife to Jupiter, which in TJJ is the name of the island the story takes place. Boreas is the name of the northern wind.
Jane Boreas - No special reason behind the name Jane, I just like it.
Jessica Boreas - From the True Blood character Jessica Hamby, a newborn vampire.
The Weary Wasteland -
Jules aka Rusty - Jules comes from the Pulp Fiction character, Jules Miles. Rusty is because Jules is a ginger with tons of freckles. And who owns a junkyard.
Sookie - After the True Blood character, Sookie Stackhouse, who is also a waitress.
Daisy and Lily - Named after two famous sideshow freaks, Daisy and Violet Hilton. I could not use the name Violet for obvious reasons so I picked another flower name.
All the camp kids are named after famous sideshow freaks actually.
I will post
The Awful Asylum's list when it is done.
