Alright guys, this chapter is a little bit longer and I would just like to note that any difference from the original story is made on purpose, because the second chapter is full of them. I hope you enjoy it:
CHAPTER 2: AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLE
Emma kept falling for hours. On her way down, she saw wardrobes, refrigerators, televisions and all she could think of was how nicely the hole was decorated. She finally fell asleep. When she woke up, she found herself in a cave, surrounded by doors. There was a table in front of her.
“Geez, what a marvelous place!!
”-Emma said. Upon further inspection of the place, she found out that she was alone. “Thank God! Being friendly to everyone all of the time can be tiring.”- she thought. Emma walked towards the table. On it, lied a key and a bottle with the words ‘Drink Me’ written on the cap. “Wow… Perhaps Hermes was right. This whole ‘Drink Me’ thing seems kind of rape-y.”
Emma proceeded to take the key and try it on every door, but it didn’t seem to fit in any of them. Almost giving up, Emma found a door in the size of a mouse hole. The key fit perfectly, but Emma did not. She sat on the floor, sad and thought: “This is all so frustrating! If there’s one thing I can rely on when I’m depressed, though, is Evanescence.” She pulled out her Ipod and got ready to get crazy. Because when it comes to Emma, you can count on one thing: when she listens to Evanescence, something inside her comes alive, something dark.
So when she put her earphones on and heard the lyrics: “
I saw her bleed\ You heard me breathe”, it began: “You know what?! I DON’T CARE IF I DIE!1!one!”. Emma took the rape bottle and drank it all up. It was surprisingly tasty. But then, something weird started to happen. Right before her eyes, Emma’s limbs started to shrink. In a few seconds, she was too small for her floral dress and her ears were too tiny for her earphones, that now seemed like huge amplifiers.
She quickly turned the huge IPod off and ripped some tissue off her dress to make a smaller one for herself. When she turned around, Emma found a mouse staring at her. Gah, she needed to be friendly again.
“Hello, what’s your name?”- Emma asked, with a smile.
“I’m Very Funky Disco, nice to meet you.”
“You know, you are a very cute rat.
”
“Oh, God, this again. I’m not a rat, I’m a mouse. The prejudice of some people! You know, this is one of my favourite topics to discuss: Prejudice against mouses. It’s really connected to another great topic: Social Norms. I mean, are they worth anything or not? And if we keep thinking, there’s also that never-ending discussion: Is it OK to dislike a popular song by your favourite band? I mean, everyone loves to talk about those things, right? Right?!”
Emma stared blankly at VFD’s face, her mind had shut down a while back. She quickly realized she was waiting for a reply. With a grin, she nodded: “Yes, yes, everyone likes that
.” She thought the mouse was very sensitive and decided to be more careful with what she said.
“So, what are you doing down here?”- VFD asked.
“Well, it’s a long story and right now I just wanted to get out. I opened that door over there, but now I’m too little to turn the doorknob. Could you help me? Oh, you’re so helpful!! And so nice!”
“Oh, you just want to leave fast, is that it? Is it because I’m a female mouse who enjoys rock music? Rock is not just for men you know?”
Everything Emma said was an offense. No matter how nice she was trying to be. And she tried
so hard. Emma’s right eye started twitching. She started shaking. Emma got really close to VFD and whispered: “You listen to me, stupid rat, you’re going to tell me how to get out of this hell hole or you won’t have a head to discuss your polemics anymore, capish?”
The mouse had her eyes wide open. She was terrified. VFDisco mumbled: “The… cake…”, she pointed to a cake on the floor, the words “Eat Me” were written on the frosting.
“Thank you soooo much
.”- Emma smiled. She walked towards the cake and nibbled it. This time, she only grew a little bit. She made herself a more decent dress, for her new size and walked through the door.
Right before she left, Emma said goodbye: “Farewell, my friend!”, and left VFD, who was almost having a stroke.
