The ASOUE universe is filled with numerous locales: Lake Lachrymose, the Village of Fowl Devotees, Paltryville, etc. However, the only documented map of the ASOUE world is located in Lemony Snicket's Unauthorized Biography: images.wikia.com/snicket/images/6/61/Map_-_Copy.jpgThis is where the challenge comes in. In this contest, we want to see your best representation of the ASOUE universe in a map. Cartographers, grab your pencils and crayons or open up Photoshop and get cracking! You can use the original and edit it to your choosing or go crazy and draw it all on your own! Maps will be rated on: - Creativity -Accuracy (to the best of our knowledge) - Something else I don't know yet

Question: Are maps we've drawn in the past accepted, or do they have to be new?

I've actually seen the maps you're talking about, or at least I'm assuming you're talking about. That is perfectly fine. If you'd like to change them up a bit, based on newer information from ATWQ, for example that is fine too.
Also, maps should be PMed to me, not posted in the thread.

Not drawing one personally, as the picture facilities on my computer aren't great, but I for one am very excited to see these!

I'm definitely interested in seeing what you come up with, Tiago. All I could really do in the time available was edit an old one to update it. But any new one I did would just have been a remake of that original anyway.

So, who won in the deadly battle between me and thedoctororwell (and any other silent contributors)?

Well, it looks like we'll see no resolution to the contest. Anyone interested in seeing my contribution or should we wait ?

Sorry guys, just been really busy with work and stuff. The contest has put me in a difficult position as Dante and thedoctororwell were the only ones to enter and both had extremely different styles and manners of which they went about the creation of their maps.
If this were only based on design, the doctororwell would win simply because the map was beautifully designed and crafted. However, Dante's was also quite good as the handwritten manner gives a more personal feel to the map as if someone was drawing it as part of research or something.
Above all else, I feel both of you should simply post your maps and let people see your hard work. It is all in good fun.
And if a clear fan favorite emerges, a reward of some kind may be in order..

Understood. So, without further ado, I'm proud to present... Beyond the Lousy Lane So here's my map ! Warning, these files are BIG. This is supposed to be one of Quigley's maps, as the ex-cartae indicates on the right. It shows all if most of the locations we know from Asoue and several from ATWQ as well. I wanted to put more pictures on the map but, while entertaining, it would have made it difficult to read. Originally the map was supposed to include locations from other fictional sources ; north of the map was supposed to be a frontier with the country of Zembla (fictional place where Vladimir Nabokov sets his novels), amongst many others. However there were already so many places to cram in that I decided to just keep the map "canonical" to the Snicketverse and the Snicketverse only. You'll notice that special care has been observed to integrate the various locations in a network of roads and train racks that would make sense from a storytelling point of view. For example Stain'd by the sea is reachable from the city by train and car alike and the road passes through Lousy Lane. On the whole the original map from LSUA has a very strange sense of scale but I tried to adapt some distances to make some travels by foot believable, especially in the Hinterlands. The volcano near Daedelus Dock can actually be seen on the original LSUA map. It is also the same one which destroyed a whole village according to Lemony in TWW. The Galway Kennel is the same kennel we see on the map from LSUA. I've also placed the Quagmire Estate not too far from Monty's house since they're supposed to be connected through a secret passage. The Winnipeg Mansion, since it is located in Winnipeg, is not represented on this map. The Brae is not very far from Briny Beach, since it seems to be the crashing site of the Beatrice and where the Baudelaires were supposedly heading when they left the Island.
