I think this Sunny theory actually makes a lot of sense, especially after reading SYBIS. On page 285-286, it says "Theodora was still talking. She was talking about Bertrand, her previous apprentice." This could possibly be referring to Bertrand Baudelaire, which would give the Baudelaire parents more of a reason to name their daughter after S. Theodora Markson.

Aye, the Bertrand clue - and there can be very little doubt the reference was to Bertrand Baudelaire - weighs pretty h eavily in the Sunny theory's favour.

I think it is safe to assume that her first name is VERY important since it is questioned repeatedly. It would be a huge mistake for Daniel to just decide her name is Shelby or something. It has to be something big otherwise it would not be as big if a deal as it is.

Well, just because it's important doesn't mean we'll find out what it is. *cough* sugar bowl *cough*

Well, we get a gist... I suppose Theodora's first name isn't necessarily one of the big questions that Handler's promised to answer, though.

"Theodora," I said. She wheeled around, her hair, a tornado that I had to step back to avoid being hit in the face with it flurried around with her. "Snicket," she said in response as she peered at me from behind her sunglasses. "I'm going to ask you a question and it is a question a want a straight, conciese and above all, truthful answer to alright? Theodora gasped at me and crossed her hands "such demands!" She shrieked at me. "Need I remind you of your position, Snicket?" I sighed, but carried on my enquiring. "No, Theodora, you don't. But please, for the sake of my sanity, can you answer my question? "And what question is that? She retorted. "What does the S. in your name, and by that I mean, your name of S. Theodora Markson. What does the S. stand for? Every time I have ask you this question you have dodged, evaded, avoided, hid, cast aside, ignore, feigned ignorance and denied me the answer. You know my first name, what is yours? "Snicket, she began, but she stopped when she saw me pull out the gun I had reappropriated from Harvey Mitchum not a few hours previous. "Answer the question!" I screamed at her. Aiming the revolver at her, my finger was itchy. "Do you feel kismet, buddy? Well do ya?" I spat at her. She shook from head to toe and finally told me. "It's Sunny" she said, her lip trembling. "Sunny Theodora Markson." I emptied the gun chamber and pocketed the bullets and the revolver in my back pocket. "Well that's alright then!" I said. "Now, I'm off to the library, I'll be back for dinner." I left the Far East Suite, satisfied in finally getting one of the answers I craved.

I don't quite understand this, Agathological. Is it an actual extract form the book (in which case how did you get it?) or is it fanfic?

Theodora knocks and rings six times. This might be a connection to the "S."

Could her life be S-themed more broadly? It's a thought, certainly, though I can't think of any more obvious examples. She's... slovenly? An ill-tempered person might even say, stupid? She... uses female pronouns?

I really like the Sunny theory. Especially when another poster pointed out that Bertrand (possibly Baudelaire) was apparently her favorite apprentice. :-)

I take it that mean's Theodora's going to die by your prediction, then?
