For the Advent Calender
With thanks to Anka for spell checking
He could feel the cold on his fingers even through the gloves, so he shoved his hands deep into his pockets. But that was simply a waste of time, because a few seconds later he has to look at his watch to check the time. 10:25pm. he was late. Everyone would be upset with him. again. Why did he always have to ruin everything? He looked at his watch again. 10.26pm. yeah. the longer you stop to look at you watch, the longer it will take for you to get there.
It was a party, a party that everyone in town had been talking about for the last 11 months. Tragedy had pulled out all the stops, apparently. There would be... um....er... well nobody was quite sure, but the general consensus was that it would be the best party since parties began, and that was so long ago that nobody even remembered how good that was.
And so the invites had been sent out. 24 people had been invited. Mister M was surprised to have received an invitation, but anka had also gotten one, so he supposed that was the reason why. The party had started at 9.00pm, and there had been strict instructions that nobody should be late. i
But then it had snowed. and then miter m's car had broke down. and now here he was, freezing cold, and walking, half running, down the path. The snow was growing ever higher, higher than mister m had ever seen, and his strides became larger as he began to walk even faster. it was 10.28 now. damn.
He began to run
but then, inevitable he tripped and fell, and smashed his glasses on the pavement. He laid there for minute, face down in the snow. maybe if he stayed there long enough the snows would cover him and his embarrassment, he checked the time. 10.30pm.
With a sigh, he pulled himself up, and began to walk. *ow* very slowly. he had *ow* hurt his *ow* le.
as he limped further through the snow, he pulled out the invitation and read once more
You are cordially invited to a celebratory party at 667 dark avenue on the 24th December 2013
The Party will begin at 9.00pm. you must, under no circumstances, be late. RSVP required
'under no circumstances' well done, m, well done. He pocketed the invitation once more, and looked at his watch. 10.33pm. he better try running again.
only.... he didn't have to run, he was already there. 667 dark avenue stood in front of him, tall ad imperious, bright light was beaming out, and loud music could be heard coming from inside. that was good. maybe he could slip in unnoticed.
He walked up the icy steps to the grand entrance. he pulled out a small card, consisting of a small picture, the words MISTER M Printed in bold letters, and the umber 6767. He pressed the card up against a small scanner, and the doors clicked open, and he stepped inside.
Suddenly, there was no music, and the entrance hall was completely blank. it was eerily quiet. 667 dark avenue had never been quiet before.
'hello?' he called 'anyone there?'
but nobody replied. something was very wrong. Mister M thought himself lucky that he had turned up late. something bad had happened here.
'Anka?' he said 'anyone?'
and then he heard a noise... it was a large scraping sound, like grinding metal, and then a noise like something heavy being lifted.
the, to his left, a large smashing. something had fallen onto the front desk. he walked over... and then.. he realised what it was. it was a body.
cautiously, he leaned over. He recognised the face, and suddenly he realised how silly it was of him not to ask him more about his long life before.
but then mister m heard another noise, like something else slowly creaking. it seemed to be coming from he middle of the room. If only he'd had his glasses he would be able to work out what the strange noise was.
He walked over, but he couldn't see where the noise was coming from. and then he saw the fantastic glass chandelier. only it seemed closer than ever before. and it seemed to be getting closer. in fact, it was so close he could almost touch it.
but before Mister M realized what was happening, it was to late

Hermes adjusted his tie once more, but it still didn't look straight enough. It was blue, with light diagonal stripes. He hadn't worn this particular tie for a very long time, ad he doubted he would have the chance to wear it again.
the phone rang in his pocket, and it made Hermes jump. Nervously, he answered.
'Hello?' he said.
'It will happen tonight.' said a rough voice, before hanging up.
Hermes gulped. He placed his phone back in his pocket, and walked over to his desk. he picked up the envelope, and placed it in his pocket. the card - with a picture, his name and the number 5336 written upon it - he decided to hold in his hand. He took one last look at the room, before exiting and walking down the stairs.
As he reached the landing, he slowly crept down the stairs, before reaching the door to the sitting room. pushing it open just a crack, so he could see his children playing, his wife was standing looking out the window. he didn't have the heart to say goodbye to them.
He had a light supper at the local cafe, and he observed Sophie and bee eating dinner. as the light slowly faded, and snow began to fall, and Hermes became lost in thought.
And before he knew it, it was already time for the party.
He made his way through the streets and the building drifts of snow, and he arrived at 667 dark avenue just a few minutes after nine.
After making his way inside, he soon realised he was the one of the last people to arrive.
'Hermes!' Said Sherry Ann, bounding over to him 'We wondered what had happened to you.' She, Dante, and terry had been sharing drinks by the fire, away from the main group of people.
'We thought you weren't coming said terry.
'that would have been very disappointing' said terry roughly.
Whatever they had bee talking about, they didn't seem to keen to share it with him, and the topic soon turned to LITMUS, and bandit, and whether it was a good idea. Hermes didn't take part in the conversation to much, his mind was on other things, but they agreed they would talk to Linda about it as soon as possible.
Tragedy then arrived, and called them all into the dining room, where he had prepared a delicious 18 course meal. Hermes didn't have much of a appetite... the person who had spoken to him on the phone sat opposite from him, and Hermes watched his every move.
And then it happened.Hermes didn't exactly remember much, but then neither did anybody else
-~-
He woke on the second floor.
The lights were out, and he could feel a bitter wind coming from outside.
Hermes struggled to pull himself to his feet. a pain went down the side of his left arm. He touched there and could feel blood.
he leaned against the Bannister, and turned. he could see across the grand entrance hall from here. The chandelier was inches away from him.
All of a sudden, the wind picked up, and Hermes slowly walked over to the open window and shut it. He pressed against the door to the nearest room, and opened it. it was unoccupied.
going inside he found himself in a bathroom. He lent against the side of the bathtub, and pulled out the letter. it was, thankfully,
undamaged.
He tried with all his might to remember what happened, and it was only then that it occurred to him... where had everyone else gone? But he didn't have time for that. there was a knock at the door.
'Hello?' the voice said. Hermes recognized it instantly.
'Come in, sixteen, its me.'
Sixteen opened the door, and it was a sight to behold.
A large knife was protruding from his stomach. blood pouring down the front of his bellhop uniform. 'i...ah... had a bit of an accident.'
'oh my word' said Hermes shocked 'here sit down, he said, indicating to the floor. 'there a first aid kit in here somewhere'
'that's okay.' said sixteen, smiling grimly 'its a bit late for that.'
'but how did this happen?' he said
'it was an accident.'
'what kind of accident?'
'well i was stabbed.'
'by who?'
sixteen seemed to pause for a moment, and sighed before saying 'anka'
'what?' said Hermes, shocked 'but why would she do that?'
'i don't know.' he gasped in pain 'but she did'
'stay here. let me get help. DONT move.' Hermes said, rushing out of the room.
He ran along the narrow corridor, and reached the staircase, and he noticed somebody walk into the front entrance. Even though it was dark, Hermes could tell it was mister m. but.... surely he couldn't tell m that his girlfriend stabbed sixteen... but he had no choice.
Hermes took one step of the stairs, but a hand covered his mouth
'I said it would happen tonight.' said the rough voice 'I didn't realise i would have such a perfect opportunity.'
And hermes was pushed over the side of the stairs. As he fell crashing down on the front desk, his clasped firmly on the letter in his pocket. a letter, that would now never be read.

She had offered to split the bill, but bee had refused, saying Sophie should pay for all of it as it wasn't like she couldn't afford it.
She didn't want to cause a fuss, however so she paid for the meal before swiftly leaving.
She went home to prepare for the party quickly, and reflected on what bee had said. It wasn't her fault, what charlie had done, but she
supposed she was partly to blame. Sophie had known about charlies intentions for a while, but she simply couldn't find a way to tell bee the truth... charlie had only been after the diamonds. How he had found about them was anybody's guess. Bee had only told her closest friends, and they had all been sworn to secrecy. But after charlie had manged to take them, Sophie had somehow been the one to receive the blame. Now her and bee's friendship was broken.
Sophie chose her favorite dress, and her fanciest shoes, and her most colorful hairdo before heading to the party.
She hopped on the bus, and sat staring solemnly out of the window, barely noticing her surroundings. When she got of at her stop, she realized she had been sharing a bus with none other than charlie.
They barely glanced a look at each other as they walked awkwardly to 667 Dark Avenue. When they arrived, almost everyone else was already there. Charlie walked into the simmering crowd of people. Sophie went to go and talk to Willis, who was sat on a chair by the window.
'Hey.' she said
'Hey.' he replied, not even looking up from a letter he was reading.
And so they sat there, in awkward silence.... that was until tragedy called them through.
He served a brilliant 18 course meal, after which he rambled on ad on about something or other that wasn't really of any interest to amy normal human.
But then he produced a list of 6 names
'I will call some of your names out one by one, and when i have called your name, you will follow me into the next room.' he paused dramatically before saying 'Sophie.' after which he beckoned to the door.
Lazily, she stood up and followed tragedy into the next room.
What she saw shocked her.
-~--
When she woke, she couldn't even remember what it was she had seen. Or where she had been. or what was happening. All she knew was that she was cold.
She realized she was laying down in a bathtub, but with no water. She sat up, and realized she was in bathroom in 667 Dark Avenue. groggily, she pulled herself up and waled over to the door.
She stepped out onto the corridor, and walked over to the huge window, and pulled it open. She could see the snow had covered the entire city like a white blanket. But it was cold, so she moved away from the window.
It was only now that she realised all the light were off inside 667 dark avenue
'Hello?' she called.
'Hello!' came a voice from the next room, and charlie came bounding out. he looked like he had just been thrown through a hedge backwards.
'who is that?'
'its Sophie' said Sophie
'oh. hey'
'what happened?'
'i have no idea.'
'are you hurt?'
'i have no idea.'
Sophie smiled 'well same.'
Charlie seemed to pause for a moment, thinking 'i remember now.... its cold in here.'
'SOrry' said Sophie, and she walked over to shut the window. She paused, however, because she could see something strange outside.. there was strange green light illuminating the street below. it seemed to be coming from above... Sophie turned to look up, and she could see somebody on the roof, shining the green light onto the floor.
'Sorry' said charlie 'But i have to do this.' Sophie turned back to see what it was charlie had to do, but it was to late. Charlie pushed Sophie out the opn window, and she fell to the snowy street below, her shocked expression illuminated by the eerie green light.

Willis had no idea what to do now. He hadn't spoken to his sister for a long time now, but why did she do it now? and what did it even mean?
He read it again 'You should really keep secret formation secret'. But what does that mean?
he said that and sent the message
A few seconds later another reply appeared 'Hermes'
Willis took another sip of coffee. The temperature was dropping, and the sun was starting to set. But it was still light enough for
Willis to be able to see Hermes walking along the pavement to the other side of the road. He turned, and went into the local cafe.
Willis arrive a few seconds alter, and he ordered another coffee. Hermes was sitting at a nearby table. He seemed to be thinking about something, as if he was facing some great moral dilemma. his hand was rested in his jacket pocket... something important was there.

He had always bee a wonderful pick pocket, it was one of his best skills. He mana9ed to remove the letter and replace it with an empty one.
On his way out of the cafe, he noticed bee and Sophie having dinner. thankfully they hadn't noticed him.
Willis went back and sat on the bench. He pulled out the envelope, and read what was written there.

'Hey' Sophie's voice startled willis, but only mildly
'Hey' he replied, and he continued to stare at the letter thinking.
When the guests were called in for the 18-course meal, Willis sat and thought for most of the evening. he decided that as soon as the dinner was over, he would leave town, and he could ever come back. He realised he wouldn't even be able to tell his sister what had happened...
-~~~~-
When he woke, he didn't remember what had happened.
Well, at least not completely.
He remembered a bright light, and loud noise inside his head, and then he woke up.
He sat up, and was surprised to find himself on the top floor of 667 Dark Avenue - the 667th floor, to be exact. He was directly outside the penthouse.
The penthouse had been locked ever since Tragedy had had the place redecorated. He wondered how he had ended up here.
But he didn't have much time to wonder. Because out of the window, he could see a strange green light. He recognised that light the second he saw it.
He quickly dashed up the stairwell to the roof, to talk to the person shining the light.
The cold hit him immediately, the snowflakes beginning to fall on his head. In all the snowy confusion, Willis couldn't even tell where he was going, let alone where h-
But then... there was a noise, like a small explosion, and Willis felt a pain in his stomach.
He looked down and saw blood.
He had been shot.
Willis' body collapsed on the rooftop, and was buried benath red snow.
