32 separate invitations were sent out, to 32 different people. All of them read the same though.
Dear Sir or Madam,
You have been invited to a tournament for the ages. You have skills, be they mental, physical, or perhaps something else, that make you a worthy candidate. A champion will be crowned, and it could be you. Please respond if you agree to participate. There is a prize. Please report to Dark Avenue tomorrow if you accept.
The letter was not signed.
32 people read the letter. There was a wide variety of reactions, many being uninterested or confused. “I don’t want to leave,” said Lucas to his family. “There are delicious cookies here.” Fancy and Mike Mountain were among the most confused. “We don’t even go to Dark Avenue anymore,” they said. Tragedy was surprised that he himself got a letter, as he still thought of himself as a king in no need of being crowned again. On the other hand, some reacted with excitement, ready to face a new exciting challenge. “All I know is that there’s something to win, and I love winning,” said Pandora. Dante also saw it as an opportunity to show how he is better than everybody else, especially teenagers. Others still were just bored, and had nothing better to do. “I’m bored, and I have nothing better to do,” said Sixteen. Kyle read the letter, then cut out each word in the letter, rearranging them to make it say silly things. Friends, such as Bee and Sherry Ann, called each other and were surprised to find they had both received the letter. Eventually, all 32 invitees decided that they would go to Dark Avenue, and take part in whatever was going down.
Everyone had arrived. The 32 of them looked around. They were all familiar with each other, relationships ranging from enemies to acquaintances to friends to lovers. After greeting each other, they started to question who it was that had brought them here. As if on cue, a supernatural light materialized. It spoke with a booming voice. “I’d like to welcome you all to the Dark Tournament. In case you haven’t read the first one, I’ll give you the basics. Each of you will be given a partner, chosen based on who will work together well with, and also help move the plot along best. You and your partner will face off against another duo, and fight to the death. If your partner dies but you win the match, they will be resurrected for the next match. The last team standing wins.” “Now wait a minute,” said Pen. “What’s our incentive here? There was talk of a prize.” “Oh yes, thanks for reminding me,” said the voice. “As you probably guessed based to my mysterious nature, I am all powerful. And so I will grant each member of the winning team one wish.” “Oh, so it’s like Twisted Metal,” said BSam. “Exactly,” said the voice excitedly. “Anyways, let me sort you into your teams.”
Sherry Ann and Bee. Anka and Mister M. Kyle and Charlotte. Terry and Hermes. Tryina and Teleram. Tragedy and Lucas. Fancy and Mike Mountain. Sixteen and Charlie. Dante and Antenora. BSam and Songbird. Pen and Rellim. Freebird and LSWannabe. Sophie and Bryan. Pandora and Linda. Bandit and Michelle Denouement. Tiago and Emma Squalor.
“Those are the teams. The first match will begin immediately.”
Drama. Action. Betrayal. Heartbreak. Intrigue. 667 Dark Tournament. II. Let the games begin.
