Green?

Well, ?1 was blue with a little bit of blue. ?2 was purple with a little bit of green. ?3 is (was? is? will be?) the opposite of ?1. This probably means that ?4 will be green, with a little bit of purple. In some way, the each main color seems to match the book's setting- ?1 was set at night, ?2 in bad weather, and in a lab with purple stuff, and ?3 in fire. So what will ?4 be? I have a theory that ?4, or at least a part of it, will be set in the clusterous forest. What do you think?

I had assumed that, since ?4's crime will be a murder, the bright green somehow related to poison.

I agree with the Duchess and Bandit; ?4 will almost certainly be primarily green, with the secondary colour of its cover being purple, as an inversion of ?2's art (?3 having been an inversion of ?1). I wouldn't mind the "random colour to throw everyone off" theory, except then it would mean that ?3 was actually the random colour, being the only one to recycle the colours of a previous book. Which is something that I fear may be true of Egmont's ?3, actually, but that's by the by.
I do agree that the green indicates poison; this also allows Handler to circumvent a violent and bloody murder, blood being something he generally goes out of his way to avoid depicting, presumably on children's book grounds. I think there is therefore a good chance that the murder will be committed by means of somebody's drink being spiked.
Do the colours match the books' settings? I think maybe it's partly a happy accident. ?1 needed to be blue as being the closest to moody and noir aesthetics without actually being not a colour. ?3 needed to be orange because of fire. That indicated a duality theme to the covers once they decided to have contrasting secondary colours on each cover. I don't think there's really anything purple about ?2, though, and likewise, I have a feeling that the ?4 poison itself may not look terribly green. I guess maybe it could also be green to match the plants of the Clusterous Forest, since Lemony will probably be venturing there in ?4. But once you get past ?1 and ?2, you're faced with a dearth of suitable colours in any case. With blue and orange taken, they didn't have many options left besides green and purple. Except maybe yellow.

?4 will almost certainly be primarily green, well, lets see if you are correct or not
