I just got a thought, that perhaps Polly Partial later leaves staind-by-the-sea and goes to the city, and meets Arthur Poe for the first time. Her name of course changes when they marry. The subtle prequel it is, they could be the same person, but maybe i'm overthinking
Who has the same thought? or other thoughts, even

Oooooooooooh good thought! I considered that there are now potentially two Pollys in the overall narrative when I first discovered her name. Seth illustrates her as rather old, implying that she may be ancient when/if she gets with Arthur a generation or so later, but Snicket hasn't been specific so I wouldn't argue much with this as an idea EDIT: Although, Partial is described as having a strange, angry expression, while Poe seems quite a nice lady, buying the Baudelaires clothing, with no such description. I suppose we could pull it apart like this but there's no certainty.

I was really excited by this theory at first, but on reflection, Pevalwen is right about Polly's age; ASoUE happens maybe two or three decades down the line, and I think Polly Partial would be a bit too old by then to be the Polly Poe of ASoUE, with two young children - and as Pevalwen points out, Polly Poe is actually rather nice, for what little we see of her (I think she has one line in the entire series). So no, I don't think so, though it's a real shame. Good catch on both Polly Partial and Mrs. Poe having the same name; Polly Poe is such an obscure character that it's easy to forget. Polly Partial has appeared in more books and more scenes than Mrs. Poe.

No, she's too old. Unless Polly Partial is older than she seems, and Polly Poe younger than we think she is, they couldn't be mother and daughter. But that's a good thought, Also, I have an headcannon: After realizing that people don't buy stale food, Polly Partial changes her name to Polly Whole and makes a new supermarket, that sells only organic, local, fresh non-GMO food.

youre right Mister M its probably more reasonable that she's her mother. Going with the idea that its set 20 years before, I will take a punt saying Polly Poe was 45, so at the time of ATWQ, she's 25, so already moved away before then.

A fair guess, matthewmemories. I like it a lot. And while the initial premise doesn't hold up, it was a very nice observation that passed everyone else by.
