"There was a series of books, there was an author, and there was a bunch of secrets. While I was reading these books, I thought the author was going to give away these secrets. There was thirteen books, and I was wrong." "Taking off my shoes to avoid making any sounds, I was reminded of a book which had recently been recommended to me in a letter, in which a young boy attempts to escape a library by reading large, dull books and eating pastries. Unlike the young boy in that story, I was unlikely to be magically saved by my pet starling." "I thought of a book a former fencing partner had made me read, about a kid who had an unusual name because he was named by dead people. This, in turn, made me think of the book it was based on, about a kid who had an unusual name because he was named by animals." "Why Would You Ask All These Questions?" I'm expecting Handler to get them both, since both are by authors mentioned either by or in relation to him (and it's not too high-brow, like, say, Nabokov, since they are, after all, written by a regular mortal ).

"In his dying breath, Hangfire choked out his final words: 'Lemony...I am your father.'"
Has this been done yet?

I don't think it has, you know! Almost brings the series full circle.

I doubt anyone will ever want to make a movie of this book, but if they do I hope they don't...

"Like all good stories, there is a hero. I have no idea where she is." Conversely: "The hero of this story died long before this story began, but why should that matter?"

I'll be away for the next week, so I thought I would take stock of the thread now and give some advice, to help keep the thread moving while I'm not here to do it. So, here's where we're at:
We presently have, I believe, about thirty-nine Snickety Sentences in. It's an impressive start for only halfway through our construction period! However, the catch is that most of those have been written by either me, Antenora, or gliquey, and when I say most, I mean getting on for three-quarters. I hope you can see that it would be desirable to see more names, or at least a better spread from names outside the top three. So, if you haven't contributed yet, or haven't contributed much, please do consider joining in or coming back for more, if you have ideas still to give. The thread is full of examples, and you don't even have to follow those examples, you can do something completely different! Moreover, I do intend to weight sentences so that everyone gets represented; those of us who've submitted the most sentences can afford not to have them all in. In other words, if I get back and see more than five new entries, that would be pretty fantastic in my book.
Illustrations, too, would continue to be very nice. When I get back I may well draw one myself, to prove that you do not need to have enormous artistic talent. Illustrations liven up anything - just look at ATWQ - and I think it would be fun to have a few of them dotted throughout the project as well. Submit an original illustration, or illustrate somebody else's sentence - either is fair game. We still have a fortnight, so I hope there's plenty of time to construct something.
This marks more or less the halfway points of the project. For all I said above, we have done well so far, and I'm really pleased with what's come in. Can we make the remaining fortnight as impressive as the first fortnight? I'd like to think so!

I did one might edit it later but I hope the reference is clear
"Calling someone a 'ray of sunshine' is usually intended as a compliment. However, an acquaintance of mine was once so blinded and agitated by the sun that he shot a man five times in the chest. Consequently I am now hesitant to comment on the radiant qualities of even the kindest strangers."

I'm afraid the Snicket-octopus drawing has been delayed thanks to some recent luck. It's still coming, just slightly later than I had originally hoped.

A sentence. Doesn't sound that much snickety. But it's a sentence.
"I didn't say anything, because I remembered a similar conversation with my sister, and I didn't want any of us to end up in a similar situation as her."
