Last year we agreed to have 12 fixed categories and one special award category that changes every year, to avoid the big discussion about categories every year. This thread is NOT about the special category and not for dropping or adding any category. This is for if there are any suggestions for changing the name of a category or change some of the rules for an existing category. The 12 fixed categories are: - Most Lemony (an award for the person most devoted to Snicket's books) - Most Valued Poster - Best New Member - Best Organiser - Funniest Member - Most Compassionate - Best Pairing - Most Notorious - Best Artist - Best Profile Decoration - Best Thread - Best Storytelling (combining the awards Best Writer and Best Story that we used to have) Here are some things that were said last year which I said I would remember for this year: about the name of Best Storytelling: I think 'Best Writing' might be better, because it should be possible to win this for things other than stories - as Lady Grantham did a few years ago, for poetry and essays as well as stories. about Best Pairing: i want best pairing to include pairings of more than two people or i want a category for threesomes and more. For this we would need something to avoid that there are too many nominations though. But I think I have an idea for that already.

"Most Lemony" is the worst name ever, but I don't really have any ideas. "Best Snicketologist"?

There are quite many people who don't like the name "Most Lemony". Actually just calling it Best Snicketologist would maybe be a good idea, because that just says what it is. None of the other categories have any weird fancy name, so why don't we do the same with this one?

The award is for the person most devoted to the works of Lemony Snicket, so 'Best Snicketologist' does not correctly capture it.
If I remember, the term was chosen by a vote. It replaced 'Most Unfortunate'. 'Most Questionable' was also considered, but 'Most Lemony' was chosen as covering Lemony's work as a whole. I think it has the advantage that it obviously doesn't make sense literally, whereas 'Unfortunate' could actually mean someone who has suffered misfortune, and 'Questionable' someone of doubtful character.

I thought that's exactly what Snicketologist means: Devoted, as in dedicated to the study and discussion of Lemony Snicket's work. While Most Lemony isn't exactly a knock out title, I'm not opposed to it though.

Im basically not even around anymore and i have no chance of winning and therefore no right to complain, but most lemony sounds pretty horrific imo

Lemona, when she arrived here and for some time afterwards, showed her devotion to the works of Lemony Snicket by writing in a Lemony style. That seems to me a perfectly legitimate qualification for this award, but it isn't the same as being a Snicketologist.
But OK, if the title is causing people serious distress, let's drop it.
I am not sure, however, that I want to be known as 'Most Dante'.

I thought "Snicketologist" was an umbrella term for everyone who posts outside of MM.

Most Lemony is fiiiiine
I'd rather change Best Organiser. even though it's a valid idea for an award (i guess) the fact that it's actually called Best Organiser just highlights how unnecessarily specific it is. how about Most Resourceful? or Most Proactive, i don't know

Hm, well as I said, Most Lemony works for me, so considering this^ I guess it's best to leave it as it is

I think we have more organisers than artists or even writers at the moment, so making this award less specific would be a bit unfair.

I kind of wonder if we should transition to calling them all only "Most" or only "Best" rather than a mix of the two; I prefer the former, myself. That would require quite a few renamings, though, and not all the categories are conceptually similar in that respect. I'm roughly in favour of broadening out Best Storytelling, though, although "Best Writer" might be a bit less clunky and more consistent with the other categories. But there's probably a reason why it isn't that already.
The trouble with "Most Lemony" is that it's hard to come up with a replacement that isn't either an original construction or not specific to Snicket. Otherwise you could come up with something like "Most Devoted," "Best Fan," etc. "Most Lemony" is at least funny, and nobody's going to mistake it for something other than what it is. And as for original constructions, I'm not sure if any of them can be not truly awkward; "Best Snicketologist" is a bit awkward, though "Best Snicketeer" would just be cheesy. Most Lemony probably stuck as the least worst option. "Best Snicket," with an implied "at," might just work. I suppose there's "Most Snickety"...
