i will campaign to change most lemony continually, as i think its an awful name. Most dante isn't much better, but it's better than most lemony. Best Profile Decoration is a bit of a clunky name but i can't think of any alternatives myself.

I think the difference between 'Most' and 'Best' makes sense; the 'Best' awards are in general for specific achievements, which can be pointed to, while the 'Most' are for general qualities of character. I think changing everything to 'Most' would make the awards vaguer, and we should, where possible, try to honour specific things that people have done; obviously this won't work in every case - e.g, it would be a bit silly changing 'Most Compassionate' to 'Best Act of Compassion' - but it's better to do it that way when we can.
As I understand it, Best Storytelling goes to a person, but nominators are expected to name a thing they have written in support of it. (I guess they could name more than one thing? But two works by one person don't compete against each other. Or have I got that wrong?) I think it should stay like that, but I would like it if it were changed to 'Best Writing' so as to include things other than stories.
It would of course be an honour to be 'Most Dante', but I feel it would cause some confusion. (I have a horrid feeling some people may have forgotten who the current holder of this award is...)

Last year there were two stories from the same writer nominated and competing against each other. I'm not sure if that's good though. What is not allowed is nominating two things where one is a part of the other. I agree with changing it to Best Writing. Is anyone really against that?

What is not allowed is nominating two things where one is a part of the other. Hm. In that case it isn't clearly different from the old Best Story. Here is the key conversation, I think. So you should all be able to see the result now: The combining Best Story and Best Writer option has the most votes, Best Story and Best writer have one vote each. I suggest now that we make a category where actually stories are nominated, of course with mentioning the writer, and in the end the writer is officially allowed to be called Best Writer. You could call it something like "Best Storytelling," which I think combines as much as possible the separate Story/Author names, and nominators would be expected to submit a link to an example piece alongside the corresponding author's name. What we got seems to be your proposal, but with the name Dante suggested. I took it that 'example piece' meant the award wasn't just for that piece, but it was just being offered as a sample for the writer's work. I'm a bit worried by the idea of linking the award to a particular work if it is to go beyond storytelling; if I nominated a poet, for instance, would I have to specify a particular poem?

How about 'Most Serious And Devoted' or Most S.A.D for short?

"Most Lemony" is the worst name ever, but I don't really have any ideas. "Best Snicketologist"? It's actually known as Most Dante. in the spirit of this we should rename funniest member as Most BSam.

What about a category for least remarkable or most desperate for a darkie

The trouble with "Most Lemony" is that it's hard to come up with a replacement that isn't either an original construction or not specific to Snicket. Otherwise you could come up with something like "Most Devoted," "Best Fan," etc. "Most Lemony" is at least funny, and nobody's going to mistake it for something other than what it is. And as for original constructions, I'm not sure if any of them can be not truly awkward; "Best Snicketologist" is a bit awkward, though "Best Snicketeer" would just be cheesy. Most Lemony probably stuck as the least worst option. "Best Snicket," with an implied "at," might just work. I suppose there's "Most Snickety"... I think 'Best Fan' is probably the best suggestion we've had so far. Can we assume that the power of common sense will ensure that it's taken to mean the best fan of Snicket, not of Harry Potter or whatever?

of course it might also be taken as Best Fan *of* fans. But that implies that it doesn't include people who are best at fanning other fans.
This is getting distressing.

Do we want a poll about the name of Best Lemony? Also if nobody is really against that we will just change Best Storytelling to Best Writing now, to include things that aren't stories. Nobody has said anything about changing Best Pairing to Best Group. What do people think about that? Charles Vane? Everyone else?

i still think groups should be allowed

Anyone against that? If nobody complains now, it will be changed to best group.
