Tried typing "letmein" to the VFD, how sweet would it have been if that was the password?

I was thinking of having a meal inspired by asoue and this is the menu thus far:
Aqueous Martinis
Chilled Cucumber Soup
Pasta Puttanesca
Uncle Monty's Coconut Cake
For the life of me, I can't think of any appetizers they might have had in the books, hence the space between the martinis and the soup, can anyone recommend one?
Also, what would activities would you have planned at a VFD dinner party? perhaps watch the movie? Trivia? What would you do if you were planning an asoue party?

Cheer Up Cheeseburgers and the Surprising Chicken Salad are both horrid menu items from the Anxious Clown.

Esmé planned to serve some terrifying hors d'oeuvres in TPP, but I don't think we ever find out what they were. There's a convincing theory that she might have planned to make the volunteers literally eat crow. I cannot recommend this practice in real life, obviously.

Here are some collected VFD recipes: thesnicketfile.tumblr.com/tagged/recipeMost of them have already been mentioned, but there are also a few of Daniel Handler's favorite cocktails mentioned, and three new VFD recipes: Parsley soda ("It's not good, but it's in"), Mr. and Mrs. Baudelaire's eggnog recipe, and the Snicket family' favorite picnic recipe (a salad).
