So Lemony just posted this: www.viralsweep.com/contest/bd986255-22524&framed=1Hope someone from 667 wins, we deserve it. Something I didn't realise earlier: They've been running a second version of the sweepstakes! The first one ended on the 14th, but this one ends on the 20th, so you have a second opportunity to win! Click here for the second sweepstakes! At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a third round as well, as this and the first have only had a maximum of two winners.

Hm. Not as impressive as the attaché case from 2012, in my opinion, and why on earth would the only book included be WCTBATH? How about, oh, I dunno - WITNDFAON? At least I learnt a new word today. I don't think I had heard of a dossier before.

I just edited your post to make this a time-limited Announcement, Zortegus. It seems the sweepstakes ends on the 14th, so that's quite soon. It may not be quite so wonderful as the 2012 attaché, but I'm intrigued by that "dossier"... And yes, it is, sadly, open to U.S. residents only.

Meh, disappointed to hear that it's US only. Not that I expected otherwise, such competitions are usually always US or UK-exclusive.
Also, a paperback WCTBATH? Let's not get carried overboard with the extravaganza!
EDIT: Having seen the poster, I wonder whether 'association of associates' could be what Lemony decides to call his newly founded branch of VFD, possibly when the official organisation won't allow them on the basis that apprentices aren't allowed to recruit volunteers. I always got the impression that the AoA was something larger and more passive to the wrongs of the world, what with its stamps being on various materials. I also wonder about the lack of Kellar and Ornette on the poster, though I wouldn't read as much into that.

LB actually only has paperbacks of the first two books so far; the third book comes out in paperback around the same time as ?4. I guess they figured that the sort of people who participate in competitions probably already have the first three books in hardcover, and since doling out ?4 either too early or too late isn't exactly a great option, they decided to go for something the entrants probably didn't have. (The Egmont paperbacks are up to ?3, but they aren't as interesting as the LB ones.) I honestly think the poster and the dossier would always have been the main atttraction.
We've been assuming for a while, or at least I have, that TAOA is a possibly paratext-only name for Lemony's group in Stain'd-by-the-Sea; there's no indication yet that it's canon but it's started being used with pictures of the main characters in advertising. Kellar and Ornette probably aren't on the poster as they're relatively peripheral so far... and also as the picture is kind of crowded as it is.

EDIT: Having seen the poster, I wonder whether 'association of associates' could be what Lemony decides to call his newly founded branch of VFD, possibly when the official organisation won't allow them on the basis that apprentices aren't allowed to recruit volunteers. Interesting idea. Lemony says 'anyone can join VFD'. I had assumed this to be true, but perhaps it is controversial, with L's faction, led by E. M. Forster, taking one view, and the VFD authorities taking another? This may be one of the things that is leading to a schism or sub-schism. By the time of ASOUE it seems clear that L's view has prevailed; the Baudelaires become members of VFD without any formal recruitment, and so do Hal, Justice Strauss and Jerome, and probably (though that's less clear) Charles. I think that's probably deceptive. During ASOUE, people were being recruited to VFD; The Puzzling Puzzles turned out at the end to be a training manual. Now, people are being recruited to AoA, because it fits the new series. Probably in neither case are the people recruited likely to become active crime-fighters, but they are joining an organisation which in principle does this.

Then why not choose this version, which is surely more interesting than a paperback with the same cover art as the hardback?

I don't think I had heard of a dossier before. That case was and is the holy grail of ATWQ merchandise so far- and I think out of the 10 or so cases, at least 2 were owned by 667ers. This is a weird, and not very exciting, promotion. AoA is interesting though, does it crop up as an ad hoc branch of VFD like Lemony said?

Then why not choose this version, which is surely more interesting than a paperback with the same cover art as the hardback? Because they don't want anyone to know that edition exists. It's received no advertising and Little Brown doesn't even have its cover uploaded on their own website. It came out in May! (Also it would implicitly compete with the cover style of the upcoming ?4 hardback.)

Dude, that's enough to make any Snicket fan green with envy. Especially the statue, but the AoA package with the wax seal is brillant, too.
And we still have a fact file thingy for Ornette Lost to look forward to.

Hey that's cool! A front view picture of Ornette.
Also I believe that Lizzie Haynes is the card in front of Ornette's; the blonde hair doesn't match Cleo's or Kit's.
