Right, my thoughts: I note the some of the people at Stain'd Station were people that were in the train station illustration of ?1.
Nice to see Sharon Haines again, maybe I didn't read it right but why did she give Theodora her key?
Finally! An image of Ornette.
When I saw 'Walleye' it all finally clicked into place.
Liked the new illustration of Theodora; without glasses this time! Sadly, her face if bowed down.
Right, so we see the actual beast. So I guess that we can conclude that Hector, Widdershins, Isadora, Duncan, Quigley, Fernald and Fiona are dead then; if they are one and the same (which, let's face it, they are.)
Hangfire was Armstrong; no surprise really; but wow, what a jerk to his own daughter.
So he loses contact with the rest of the Association of Associates? Bit sad, but that is a life truth; sometimes you do something that stains what people think of you that can never be erased.
Kellar is the only one that doesn't have a job title. I suppose he is an ad hoc version of Moxie
Really really really really really disappointed that we never find out what the S. stood for. All this lead up and I was expecting a big reveal. I don't feel it is solitude, but I really wanted a definitive answer.
Seemed that Harvey and Mimi are more villainous than I thought; incompetent and delusional sure, but actually to defend their son for murder? Wow.
Snicket hates To Kill a Mockingbird.....what? It's a story of how villainy can triumph over nobility. Really weird that he would dislike it.
Nice to see to Polly Partial again; working as a ticket agent; not sure if she has the people skills for that.
What happens to Hungry? About her husband from Calcutta?! I need answers Snicket?!
I wonder what truly becomes of Ellington.

Tread carefully. I note the some of the people at Stain'd Station were people that were in the train station illustration of ?1. And the end of ?3. Seth must have been really proud of that woman's hairdo. I think it's suggested that the two still regard each other as friends. Sharon Haines isn't necessarily a bad person, just a desperate one; she probably feels awful about Hangfire's treatment of Theodora. I saw that illustration, and knew you would be both pleased and sad. I don't remember the Great Unknown bombinating. He was the prisoner of an evil obsession, but I don't think he ever intended things to go so badly for his own daughter. The day after Armstrong Feint's disappearance, Hangfire telephoned her and told her she would never see him again. If she'd taken that to heart, she'd have been spared a great deal of grief, though she'd still have suffered terribly. But he never originally intended for her to get mixed up in any of this. I think it says somewhere that his job title is "typist." Admittedly, not the grandest ambition. This surprised me as well, but with the Bertrand reveal in ?3, then I'm pretty sure it's Sunny. Or that, at the very least, that will be the only answer for which there will ever be any evidence. I hope that she doesn't waste her life despising Snicket... but she might. In TBL, Lemony writes the initial "E" on a letter, in context implying that this is the initial of a villainess who might target him. Of course, at the time it was certainly meant to indicate Esmé, but since ATWQ began I've always wondered if Ellington might have reason to harbour a grudge against him for years and years.

I just cancelled my Amazon order and put one it at Waterstones instead. I can't see why I didn't do that earlier, it even appears to be a bit less expensive.

Is there anything to contradict my 'headcanon' that in the TUA transcript, E could be Ellington?
Definitely not intended at the time of writing, but it's a nice thought of her teaming up with Olaf to get revenge on Lemony...
I've just started TEE on my reread, so cannot remember how long it's suggested Esme and Olaf have been an item.
And good lord I hate the word headcanon.

Good luck, fragilethings. This certainly is an unusual situation, though... Is there anything to contradict my 'headcanon' that in the TUA transcript, E could be Ellington?

And good lord I hate the word headcanon. I'm definitely interested in speculative events between ATWQ and ASoUE which involve Ellington targeting Lemony, possibly alongside Olaf - the real antagonists of each series opposing the real protagonist. Ellington really is a lot like Olaf; she even uses disguises. I'm also thinking about things like the tarnishing of Lemony's name by pinning the supposed Snicket fires on him - although I'd also have thought that maybe spreading knowledge of the Stain'd Train Slayings would have helped, but I guess back then he was a minor. It's not clear how long Olaf and Esmé have been an item, but implicitly since before her marriage to Jerome.

I hate the fact I won't read it until the second or third week of October at least so I'll put this here so everyone believes I read the book and I'm commenting all the fascinating stuff in it

although I'd also have thought that maybe spreading knowledge of the Stain'd Train Slayings would have helped, but I guess back then he was a minor. So were the Baudelaires, but that didn't stop various angry mobs or the Daily Punctilio from making their lives a misery. They weren't even murderers, whereas Snicket undeniably is. I doubt anyone in V.F.D. would accept the excuse 'he was only 12 at the time'. EDIT: I hate the fact I won't read it until the second or third week of October at least so I'll put this here so everyone believes I read the book and I'm commenting all the fascinating stuff in it That's a very interesting idea; I hadn't thought of that interpretation when I first read that chapter. But on the other hand... spoiler tag with no meaningful content.

Something that just occurred to me; the train has derailed? What on Earth is the point of putting Ellington in the jail? The train isn't/can't go anywhere
Why didn't Snicket even acknowledge Kit, or try to bust her out?
Crazy crazy

When you have taken prisoner a criminal, you generally want to lock them up so that they can't escape or harm anyone... or indeed, tell anyone else what they know. What on Earth else would they do with Ellington while they wait for help to arrive? The point isn't that the train isn't going anywhere; the point is that she shouldn't go anywhere either.
As for acknowledging Kit, the fact that she didn't openly acknowledge him either should be enough to tell you that their response was the one they recognised to be the correct one in their situation. And how would Lemony bust her out? What could he possibly do better than the two people in a cell with a skeleton key and the ability to use it?

29th of September. You could maybe order from Waterstones? Or do they get imported books in the capital a lot?

"Hi Tomás Rodriguez,
You're going to be one of the first to read "Why Is This Night Different from All Other Nights?"!
I am pleased to let you know that your pre-ordered book has been made available by the publisher. "
As Olaf would say, I'm happier than a pig eating bacon <3 ("one of the first" though, you know nothing Book Depository)

High five, Zort! I just got a confirmation e-mail that my order has been shipped, too!
Suspiciously, the Waterstones website has been out of order since I placed mine. Still, shipping on Sundays is pretty good service.

I just finishd the audiobook. Very well done narration-wise--won't talk about the plot because spoilers--but thought I'd share in case anyone wants it early!!! Can't wait to talk about this after everyone's read, however that is.
