Or can we spam your inbox with answers-that-sound-plausible-but-probably-aren't-right until we stumble across the correct solution? Also, sending details of names and addresses to a stranger across the internet? Is this a safe thing to do?

Any abuse of the system will be dealt with appropriately. I take my position of responsibility very seriously and have handled such information before without any complaints. Nonetheless, I fully understand if anyone does not feel comfortable participating. don't worry dante you're not a stranger to me I only found out who you were a couple of days ago.

Any abuse of the system will be dealt with appropriately. That sounds awfully scary but doesn't really answer my original question, which was using the word "spam" in as light-hearted and non-literal a sense as possible. If you don't want to give a straight answer (e.g. "everyone gets three attempts" or "any reasonable number of attempts is fine, but try not to send too many separate messages"), are you willing to provide an answer to the question "will the right answer be meaningful enough for people to know they've got the right answer?" (e.g. if the solution was three words, it might be "free book copy" or "Dante is awesome")?

That was chiefly because I didn't really think the problem would arise, and indeed, it didn't. Incidentally, I now have a provisional five winners; bad luck, latecomers.

I have been sent the Little Brown paperback version of ?4 by mistake after ordering it, so I had a quick careful look at it before sending it back. I might've considered keeping it, but the price is only one pound less than the regular version, and it lacks the awesome octopi/BB patterned endpapers, as well as the inside flaps of the jacket where the author's+illustrator's bio and three illustrations not found in the book are. Apart from that, it's got exactly the same content as the hardcover version. And lol, the answer to the coded message is Armstrong =D

The LB paperbacks don't come out for a year after the hardback, and they do have the endpapers and do integrate the three miniature illustrations and author-illustrator bio. They also have different questions on the back cover, too. I'd censure you for spoiling it, but I've gathered all my winners now, anyway.

But it was of normal, great printing quality, even the ATWQ plate on the cover was embossed and golden. I did not check the questions on the back, though, so I don't remember if they were different. Odd. Oh, and sorry for not using the spoiler tag, I kinda of totally forgot; I read your edit that the winners were already chosen. I spoiler tagged it now for whatever it's worth.

Odd. The official paperbacks have different covers, too; there isn't a golden embossed ATWQ plate. See the example given in the original promo scan above; they reshuffle the wording on the cover. I'm not sure what edition you ended up with, but it's not one of the usual listings. It shouldn't have been an ARC, since I don't think there were any for ?4... maybe the large print edition, but I'd assumed that was another hardback...

Does your BB statue bombinate? They almost made it look cute.

Contest update: I'm still waiting for one person's address before I arrange for the books to be sent. Does your BB statue bombinate? They almost made it look cute. It does not, in fact, bombinate. I guess it could, if retrofitted with a motor or noisemaker of some sort, but who knows what that might summon forth?

anyways i gotta say the package was fairly disappointing for the most part (the box art, associates package, ?1 instead of ?4 or even better, a coded message/secret story/etc... just generally too demure and uninspired) except for the reveal of the bombinating beast. The point of ?1 is to introduce new readers to the series (though I wonder if FU13 would be better suited to that purpose). Still, this does mean that 667ers are perhaps not the best qualified recipients
