BOO!
Did i scare you?
No?
Bah, humbug.
Well it's Halloween. And, um, there are some suitably spooky halloween features this issue. Terry has a playlist of songs, Anka interviews people and asks them halloween themed questions, and hey zortegus is pretty scary anyway. There are also other things such as the History of 667, A rant, and more pictures of cakes. Oh and possibly a poem and power rankings. Possibly.
Christmas is coming, but next month will be a very interesting issue indeed....
- Mister M
1. Are you going to dress up as anything for Halloween? If yes, what, and if not, what would it be if you did?
Sophie: Initially my four best friends and I were going to be the Spice Girls but now one of them wants to be a minion so I'm going as Britney Spears.
Peppermince: I'm not dressing up, but if I was I would dress up as Princess Leia in her slave costume because, y'know.
BSam: I recently bought a scary clown mask so i might wear that
Lemona: Well, on the whole there isn’t a lot of need to do anything for Halloween in Australia unless you seek it out/make it yourself. Big shock, I can’t be arsed. If I were to be, the first fictional character to suggest themself to me would be our very own poor Theodora, who I’ve wanted to dress up as for a while. Mostly because of the hair. Come to think of it, availing myself of my hair for Halloween is something I have a history of doing. FUN FACT: many years ago I straightened it out to be Morticia Addams and won a costume contest. I just became significantly cooler to you, did I not?
Charlie: Well my group is maybe having a Halloween party, so if I did go to that, I'd probs dress up as a spooky ghost or something, bc I am not currently super motivated enough to make an outfit. Maybe I'd try out fake blood, that's always fun? Christmas tho, my group always dresses up, and I'm going as a naughty elf lol, so I'll have to get sewing for that soon!
Zortegus: Probably yes, since this year it's on Saturday and all the bars in town are doing some kind of party with free beer and prizes. It's not like I love costumes and special fx makeup or something like that anyway. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do, maybe Hades (Disney version) or some original creature/thing I'll make that day. I also considered the Eleventh Doctor (Doctor Who) since everyone says I look like Matt Smith when I shave, or maybe Darth Maul? Hmmmm.
2. So on Halloween children go to houses and want candy. What candy would you want most if you were one of them?
Sophie: Milky Way! And Warheads.
Peppermince: If I went trick or treating, I would want Red Skins as they are my favourite lollies.
BSam: I don't know, something delicious
Lemona: Tough question, Anka. I don’t like rubbery or sour candy, but apart from that I’m very easy-going.
Charlie: I am a child lol, but my favourite sweets are all in the category of semi-gummy things that are covered in that sour sugar they put on everything these days, eg. sour worms, coke bottles, and these strawberry things that melt in your mouth (amazing).
Zortegus: I'm so jealous of the children who had Halloween during their childhood. I'd love any kind of candies, but I love Skittles and stuff with dulce de leche so yeah, those are good options.
3. Halloween is also a good day for scaring people. Have you ever successfully scared someone? Tell us the whole story!
Sophie: I'm not a very scary person (which is why I was going to be Posh Spice, not Scary Spice) but I have popped out of shadowy corners and made people scream.
Hmm one Halloween I ate half a Chipotle burrito and then later threw up in the grocery store bathroom. It was an adventure.
Peppermince: When I was in grade 6 my friends and I would always do the thing where someone would get on their hands and knees behind someone and then someone else would push the person over your back and once I did it to my friend on this tiny bridge thing and that scared them a lot.
BSam: I'm not sure if I've tried to scare someone, at least not in an intentional way that makes for a good story
Lemona: Oh man, I have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to this kind of stories. This is a personal favourite: I was in a scaring-people mood. It was essentially bedtime in the household. My dad was watching the end of a movie on telly before he went to bed. I knew, due to my careful observations of human behaviour, that he would go to the bathroom when the movie finished. I ostensibly went off to bed. I hid inside the darkened bathroom, behind the half-open door. Tens of minutes passed. Finally the movie finished and dad shut off the tv and approached the bathroom. As he opened the door, I leaped out from behind it (leaping is essential in situations like these) and shouted something along the lines of “BOO” (the all caps are also essential).
Charlie: Apparently I do this thing where I'm walking behind friends, and they have no idea, and then I just breathe on their necks and stuff and it's super creepy, but idk if that counts, I guess a few people have like jumped or whatever.
Zortegus: I usually scare my mom making her believe someone abducted/raped/killed me if I don't answer my phone right away, does that count?
I also usually scare little kids, old people and humans in general when I get out of my FX classes. One kid cried when I walked down the street with yellow contacts and vampire fangs. When we did bruises and cuts a woman in the subway told me that whoever did that to me deserved to go to jail. Should I start a trial agains my teacher? Hmmm.
4. Lots of TV shows have Halloween episodes. Which show do you think has the best one?
Sophie: I like It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown..if that counts as a TV show.
Peppermince: I love holiday specials but my favourite Halloween one is Futurama: The Honking.
BSam: My favourite is probably the Halloween episode of Community, the one with zombies and ABBA
Lemona: Ida know, I can’t think of any shows with Halloween episodes off the top of my head.
Charlie: Okay, not technically TV, but a lot of kpop groups do special Halloween performances, which are always awesome to watch. So probably those
Zortegus: Hmmmm I love the old Halloween special episodes of The Simpsons, Good. For a mintue I thought nobody would mention those – M but they suck now. I loved Fashion Police during Halloween (rest in peace sweet, sweet Joan Rivers)
5. After Halloween it is November. What is your favourite thing about november?
Sophie: Thanksgiving when we get to miss school! Also the first marking period will be over and that will be a nice relief for me.
Peppermince: I like November because it's almost summer and the pool is open so I can swim with my friends and it's fun.
BSam: I don't know if there's anything particularly special about november
Lemona: Days being long. Not sure what else. Some specific Novembers are cool, but I don’t have any inbuilt fondness for the month itself.
Charlie: Um, there is this Gorillaz song, "November Has Come" that I like to think about playing at the start of every November, but generally don't. It's a pretty nice song, so that's pretty cool.
Zortegus: It's my birthday in November! Also it's when the weather starts getting warm here in Argentina, so I can enjoy the beach before all the tourists invade my city for Summer. It's the perfect month in my hemisphere.
6. After November the year is almost over. What thing during the rest of this year are you looking forward to most?
Sophie: Probably turning 18! Or getting my first college decision, regardless of whether I get in or not.
OH AND CHRISTMAS, duh.
Peppermince: CHRISTMAS IS SO EXCITING SANTA ILY
BSam: Seeing my family for Christmas
Lemona: I sense a pattern. To be honest, there isn’t anything. There are at least a couple nice things I can look forward to next year, but the rest this year looks pretty unpleasant.
Charlie: Probably going to India with my Dad, which should be an actual awesome experience!!!!
Zortegus: Christmas! Star Wars Episode VII! Summer!
7. The last issue of the 667er was posted just before the last ATWQ book was released. Have you read the book? What did you think about it (but no spoilers)?
Sophie: I've been to busy reading The Scarlet Letter and books about DNA and prime numbers to have read it..but I'll get around to it eventually.
Peppermince: My copy of ?4 is still in the mail, so unfortunately I haven't read it yet :/
BSam: nope
Lemona: I know – why are you telling me that? Yes, I obtained it early through the weird Waterstones thing. And I was disappointed by it.
Charlie: No, I don't even own it yet, which is ridiculous bc I literally am normally so rabid, but this year I guess I figured if I could do without kpop, 667, fb etc., I could do without like one month of probably the greatest book of the year
Zortegus: Yes, I read ?4. I loved it! When I finished I felt, as someone here said (Bee?), emotionally drained. I think Snicket did a perfect ending according to the genre he wrote, which is totally different of ASOUE. I can't wait to know what's next!
8. I don't know any more questions. Which question would you like to be asked in an interview?
Sophie: "How did you get your anti-hangover superpower?"
Peppermince: I'm not sure which question I would like to be asked
BSam: this one
Lemona: Something challenging.
Charlie: I would like you to ask me my thoughts on friends and the world around me
Zortegus: Did you trademark your nickname?
9. How would you answer it?
Sophie: ickle if I know. Genetics, man.
Peppermince: idk looooooooooool
BSam: like that
Lemona: Effortlessly.
Charlie: Cleverly, I would hope.
Zortegus: Yes I have rights and lefts too so don't you dare to use Zortegus if you're not me or you'll have news of my lawyer.
A Rant About Rants
Darn it, this just isn't fun.
You may be wondering why I am doing a rant and not Lemona. Lemona is wondering that as well. The reasons are many and varied, and I won't go into them now, for reasons that are also many and varied.
But mostly, I had an idea. An idea that would work well as a rant. But it turns out that I, quite simply, don't care enough any more to do it.
Something happened, two or three weeks that was ideal rant filler, and would quite possibly have made a very entertaining read. However.... I'm over it now. I've accepted it and moved on. I'm no longer in the 'rant zone'. But I said that I would do a rant, so here I am. But there is not really anything worth ranting about... so I guess I'll just speak about whats on my mind.
At the moment I'm organising the 667er into its final form. Various articles have been coming in over the last two or three days, and i've been editing and reaidng through them, and deciding which order they will work best in. This was slightly more complicated as I have also done a cooking article, and I didn't want that to follow this, otherwise it will become obvious that secretly i'm trying to take over the world, one article at a time.
The problem is, some people haven't sent in their contributions.
Now, i'm not one to name names, but Pandora and Sophie are pretty slack in that department this week. Ah well.
And hey, I'm also waiting for Anka to send in baking pictures! Hurry up!
But I can't be angry about that. I'm to happy to rant. My little 8 week old baby brother will be around later. (Yes he comes here by himself, clever chap), so thats making it a lot harder to pull on my ranting nerves (Which is an expresiion i've never used before and hopefully never will again).
Ah well. I guess I might as well give up. Oh! Look! A thing!

History of 667
A column by Linda Rhaldeen
Welcome back to History of 667. Today's topic of interest: gag accounts!
What is a gag account, you might ask? This term, probably derived from the term gag gift, appears to be unique to 667 (an internet search brings up nothing). It is a new account, made by an existing member of 667, for humorous purposes. The creator adopts a certain persona and make all their posts in the character of this persona.
It can sometimes be difficult to tell if a member is an actual new member or a gag account. I have included a chronological list of accounts that were confirmed gag acounts, but this list is by no means exhaustive.
Kobolos, Oct 2003 - Originally created as the member Mattathias's goblin alter-ego, it eventually became his only account.
Greenberry, Oct 2003 - Greenberry was before my time and the account has since been deleted, as well as many of the posts, but it appears this account sent harassing PMs to Swans and used a lot of misspellings and exclamation marks. An investigation revealed the account to be Mr. Who.
satintheantichist - Claimed to be Satan but continually misspelled it as Satin so no one took him seriously. We never did find out who it was.
The Best of the Best, Jan 2006 - This account was created by yours truly, as a satirical take on the elitism that was rampant on 667 at the time. It was unique in that there was not just one person behind it - J., PJ, and Ennui all eventually joined in. It only lasted a couple days before complaints stopped the posting and we came clean to the forum.
Accordion Man, Feb 2006 - Showed up for various balls and other special occasions and played the accordion, he gained a following of female groupies who got excited whenever he showed up (of which I was shamelessly a part).
Pam the Spam, Mar 2006 - Spammed the forum with posts about Spam (the canned meat). Most of her posts were deleted and she was eventually revealed to be Jemima.
Coco Chef, Jan 2007 - Started out as the persona of a kindly older woman, she began contributing to The 667er and said that she was planning an article titled "The Virtues of Sex". Shortly thereafter her tone changed; the person posting as her said that Coco Chef had died and that this was her niece Kelley. The account was eventually revealed to have been an existing member, Mr. Poe, all along.
newfoundlandtim, Oct 2007 - One of the longest consistently-posting gag accounts, this account was a staple in the years 2007 and 2008, regularly contributing to The 667er. This account was known for being cheerful, innocent, and naive almost to a fault, for his work as a mermaidologist, and for his misspellings and incorrect usage of colloquial phrases. He was even named member of the month in November of 2007. He was never publicly revealed as a gag account, but it became widely known in private that he was created by Willis, and was loosely based on the real member Ernist.
gossipgirl, Feb 2008 - Posted 667 gossip in the style of the television character Gossip Girl. No one seemed to like her then, though re-reading the thread I thought it was quite funny.
Countess Violet, Jan 2012 - She herself was not a gag account, but she created multiple other accounts, among them Sorsha and Draven, whose sole purpose was to praise her and vote for her for 2011's Member of the Year. Once this was discovered, she lost her title and Member of the Year was given to Hermes.
Draven, Nov 2012 - This account was reregistered and made a bunch of posts extolling the virtues of an infamous former member, Countess Violet. Sophie admitted a few weeks later that it was her.
K-Thor, Dec 2012 - The most prolific of a group of accounts with usernames of various Marvel Universe Avengers, except with K at the beginning. They posted K-Pop graphics and not much else. Widely believed to be either Lucas or someone imitating Lucas.
Reba, Oct 2015 - The newest gag account, began by posting bear-related puns and a story called Bear Lore, but has admitted that he is Bandit and given up the Bear persona.
Bonus content:
- J. and BSam were not included in this list because, by their own reckoning, they have created at least a dozen gag accounts each.
- In June 2006, gag accounts were so common and unimaginative that Antenora created this graphic:

The Great Baking Extravaganza – Part 2
So, to carry on from last week – Me and Anka (or sometimes just Anka) were baking things from the tv show 'The Great British Bake Off'.
Week 6 - Pastry
We made lemon tart. It was *gorgeous* and tasted divine, but... umm... it wasn't exactly the easiest of rides to make. We couldn't find lemons (guh), and then the pastry failed, and then the lemon stuff went everywhere, and then we had to much and then.... well it tasted awesome. So I guess in the end it turned out okay
Week 7 - Victorian
For week 7 in the show they made old recipes and unheard of stuff. Anka took inspiration from one of the recipes and made a fruit cake. She also put blue marzipan stuff on top. I said it looked alien
Week 8 - Patisserie
Macarons. Becuase Anka likes to make them a lot. the recipe for the filling wasn't good though, the filling was completely liquid, so we always had to put it on one thing right before we eat it and not put it on all of them first.
Week 9 - Chocolate
Chocolate-coffee tart. There was to much filling left over, so
Macarons
Week 10 - Final Week
For the final week, there is no specific theme, so Anka could make anything. She asked her sister because it was her birthday. They found a recipe for biscuits with marshmallows between them which sounded awesome.
So there you go. You've now seen multiple pictures of delicious food that you can't eat. Hope you had fun
Halloween is almost here and I still don't know what costume I should wear, because I have a party in a bar and I need to win free beer. I need it okay. So, anyway, let's have some Halloween stuff. Basically, I'm going to be the blind (no I don't cover windows in my free time so don't ask) and you're going to be the other blind and I'm going to lead you somewhere. Please make sure to not hit me with your white cane, thank you very much.
BONUS FACT: Did you know that no one knows for sure who started to use white canes to identify blind people? Some people think that an Argentinian was one of the firsts in 1931.
✖ BLIND: Jack Skellington ✖
Let's celebrate Halloween with pictures of that Halloween day, two years ago, when I did Jack Skellington's cosplay and won a lot of prizes!
✖ DEAF: Re: Your Brains ✖
Since this is a Halloween special edition, I chose a song that reminds me of this particular holiday: "RE: Your Brains", by Jonathan Coulton. Coulton is a great artist and has some amazing songs, the lyrics are usually genius, so you should listen this one (the fan-video is amazing too)
✖ MUTE: Lost in translation II ✖
During Summer (that means January here in Argentina) I work in a Spanish Program my university helds for international students. Every year a group of students from Hunter College in NYC spend a month here studying and learning Spanish.
This year one of the guys in the lower Spanish level wanted to talk about Halloween in his weekly class presentation, comparing American customs and traditions with the ones we have in Argentina. He was really nervous because he didn't know much Spanish, and even when I checked the whole week his work and listened to him repeating the same paragraph over and over again, he couldn't remember how to pronounce "Día de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead). We were in the class, it was his turn of talking, and when the moment of mentioning Día de los Muertos he not only said "Día de los Tuertos" ("Day of the One-eyed"), he mentioned "San La Mierda" (Saint salsa) instead of "San La Muerte" (Saint Death).
