I thought it might be nice to have a place to discuss the character profiles, since people have expressed interest and have been granted permission, but seem unsure of where to begin. They can be found in The ?4 countdown... counts on? thread, and then in the What's in the Box? thread. Almost all are on Lemony Snicket's Twitter, though scattered, so the "officially" released profiles are: Kit, Jacques, Ellington, Moxie, Pip, Squeak, Cleo, Jake, and Ornette. None of these profiles spoil the books, though connections are fun to make. Have at!

Since we have a thread for them now, I'll go and copy all my transcriptions. ...Jacques's is still the best. I'm so glad that he was included even though the whole joke is that he never actually shows up in the series. I wonder who wrote these profiles, incidentally.

I agree, Jacques's is the best, and it would be nice to know who wrote them all just to give them credit. I like aspects of both Haines siblings and the implication that Ornette has gone out into the wider world. Jake's recently seen is sweet, and Lemony's predicament is appropriately distressing--if these weren't written by Handler, the writer certainly picked up his knack of punching people in the feels. Doubling back to Jacques, it would be interesting to see a fic built on the premise that he was nearby. What stopped him from stepping in? If Lemony was the rebel, and Kit was the ideal volunteer, Jacques strikes me as falling somewhere in the middle.

I have to say, Jacques definitely is the best. Lemony's is quite nice and Moxie's is simple but not bad. I'm not a huge fan of the others; some of the "Overheard Saying"/"Recently Seen" jokes/links just aren't funny or clever, in my opinion. And they were never released in a consistent manner, which doesn't make me feel any better about them.
I think it would be very interesting to read a fanfic based on Jacques lurking in the background of ATWQ. Jacques seems like a competent volunteer yet not one that ever does any good: we see in TSS that he was following the Baudelaires around, never quite able to be of help. (Although depending on when one thinks ASOUE was written, we could say the same of Lemony.) It would be an interesting parallel if the same was true in ATWQ with Jacques following Lemony and his friends.

I wish that ATWQ had more plot holes so a Jacques fanfic could fix them.

Well, "more" plotholes, does suggest there are plotholes where Jacques could be useful. I'm thinking maybe he could be a possible answer to the question of how Theodora learned about Kit and was suddenly comfortable with/knowledgeable of Gifford and Ghede. More on topic, I like how some of the recently seen and overheard moments can be put into a pre-ASOUE or during ASOUE context. It's nice to suppose that some of them might be the colleagues and friends Lemony refers to in his older narrative. Plus, the fic possibilities and character meet-ups can range from creative to amusing.

I wonder why the remaining profiles never got posted officially. The Tumblr just wound down for the year, I guess. That makes me all the more glad that I posted them all here.

Yes, thank you for posting them. I'm still planning to use bits and pieces in fics.
