I really can't say enough about how gorgeous your art is, and how impressed I am with your attention to detail. It's obvious you put a lot of work into these, and it's very admirable, you have an excellent talent. :-) And your artwork of Violet and the bald man is downright unsettling, so congratulations. *Adds 'downright unsettling' to my CV* *Adds 'downright unsettling' to every description of my art ever* *Has 'downright unsettling'written on my gravestone* Well maybe that's going a little far. But honestly thanks so much for your comment and in particular for the 'downright unsettling' part because that's exactly what I was going for with that drawing so it's great to know it payed off -- huzzah!

These are incredible!! How long does it take to complete one of these?? Amazing job! Thank you! That's very kind. Um, I'm not totally sure to be honest, as I've never properly timed myself. Several hours for each drawing, certainly. I often work very late into the night and I know I've spent 10+ hours on some of them. I'm going to be starting another one very soon anyway, so I'll time myself and let you know (I'm curious now, too! ). I don't know if there's much difference in time between the black and white ones and the coloured ones because although there are more stages to the coloured ones, I work the ink in much darker in the black and white ones ...

These are all wonderful, Violet, and very much in the spirit of Snicket.

Also I'm just taking delight in the fact that you called me Violet because she's my favourite character (even though I know it's obviously because of my name on here but STILL).

I just love illustration so much; it takes time and effort, yes, but it never feels like work because it's just so much fun to do.

Well after a verryyy long interval: my next illustration! I would have completed this earlier but everything's been very busy and hectic recently. Anyway, here it is: Count Olaf as he tells the Baudelaires about The Marvelous Marriage. As promised, I timed myself for this drawing: it's a slightly rough time because occasionally I would pause for a few minutes to do something else, or on the other hand I would perhaps start drawing and forget to turn on the timer for a few minutes (so it probably evens out). I also had the television on quite often while I was working because I like to have something to listen to and/or occasionally glance up at, which perhaps makes me take longer, but on the other hand it means I won't be easily distracted on to something else. I actually love drawing while listening to the ASOUE audiobooks, but I didn't do that this time. Anyway,my time was: 9 hours, 12 minutes. I'll time myself for my next coloured illustration, too, to compare them. ' "It's a very important role," he continued, his mouth curling up into an unconvincing smile,
"although you have no lines other than 'I do,' which you will say when Justice Strauss asks you if you will have me." '

My next drawing, finally! This one took about 13 hours and 20 minutes. Once again I'll leave all the little allusions up to you to figure out, but if there are any you'd like explaining then just ask. 'Klaus watched his sister leave the library and felt a wave of hopelessness wash over him. The day of the performance was not far off, and he hadn’t even figured out what Count Olaf was up to, let alone how to stop him. All his life, Klaus had believed that if you read enough books you could solve any problem, but now he wasn’t so sure.'

Also, as a matter of interest to anyone who likes art for its technicalities as well as its finished results: here is the illustration before I added watercolours. I really like the back and white stage so I decided I'd start scanning them in before I add paint so I have a record of my drawings in both stages.

That's amazing, Violet! It will need some hours of study, I feel, but I was immediately struck by the 'offices of K. Grahame' card - brilliant reference!

I'm glad you spotted that -- I had a lot of fun thinking that particular reference up (I recently reread The Wind in the Willows so it may have been on my mind)!

Wellll this took a long time to get round to. Mostly because I got caught up in other art but also because it's been SO HOT AND SUNNY and I've just been gorging myself on cherries from the village churchyard (suitably morbid for ASOUE, I think) so I haven't had as much time for drawing as normal. But anyway, here at last is my tenth drawing: Klaus reading Nuptial Law by moonlight. I'm very pleased with this drawing, so I hope you all like it too!
'Klaus stayed up all night reading, which was normally something he loved to do.'

Oh also I haven't forgotten about sharing some of my Harry Potter illustrations, A comet crashing into Earth -- I'm still trying to decide which ones won't give spoilers!

Thank you for the consideration, I appreciate it. =) For what it's worth, I do know most of the big plot points already, and I've finished book four by now.
That picture of Klaus actually reminds me of Helquist, not so much in general style, but in composition. He illustrated a book called Chasing Vermeer once, and the drawing reminds me of the ones in that.
