Being only three months (!!!) away of the release of ASOUE Netflix show, I thought it would be interesting to propose a re-reading and discussing thing for each book to get ready for the TV show. Most of us weren't here when the books were being published so we missed a lot of those discussions, and now I consider it's the perfect situation to get back to it and make theories, mention interesting details, asking questions and refreshing our memories.
I thought of making a particular event for each book: two weeks for reading and discussing that one book in the boards, then one day for a Special Penthouse edition or something similar to chat and comment.
My idea is to do it between November and January, one week before the show's out. So it'd be:
-From November 6th to November 19th: Discussion thread for "The Bad Beginning". -November 20th: Special Penthouse about "The Bad Beginning".
-From November 21st to December 3rd: Discussion thread for "The Reptile Room".
-December 4th: Special Penthouse about "The Reptile Room".
-From December 5th to December 17th: Discussion thread for "The Wide Window". -December 18th: Penthouse about "The Wide Window".
-From December 19th to January 7th: Discussion thread for "The Miserable Mill". -January 8th: Discussion about "The Miserable Mill".
Our Facebook fanpage and our Twitter account would help us to promote this and get more people on board. What do you think?

I like it, and would probably be able to take part given the time frame you've set up.

That's a pretty nice idea; I once read all the Great 667 Re-Read threads from 2009 (it was actually how I discovered 667) and I think it would be interesting to have another collective re-read of the series. Two weeks for each book seems reasonable - I'd certainly take part.

I'm down! This seems fun and it would be nice to see some discussion in real time instead of from like over a decade ago

Good idea, I'm in probably. Was hoping something like this would happen in the lead up to the series.

This idea makes sense. It can serve not only as a reminder of the basic plot and style of the early books, but can also be an early way of highlighting areas which we think would work better or worse in a TV adaptation, things which we might want changed or would prefer to remain the same, plot points which could be altered or reworked in the light of later books, and so on - the sort of thing which would be just as interesting to look back on after we've seen the TV adaptation ourselves. Two weeks per book gives even the busiest readers the possibility of handling it at a chapter a day, which isn't much in the shorter early books. I'd be happy to support this and to try to participate, so Zortegus, please contact me if you require any moderatorial assistance in the Burdensome Books category.

I last read the books when the show was first officially confirmed. This sounds like a really good idea, especially during the dark months - it'll be kinda like an advent calendar. I'll make sure to join in the penthouse when possible, but I have exams during December-January, so I may have to skip some of them.

I like the idea but (not to rain on anyone's parade) I'd rahter re-read the books after i've seen the show, and I don't have time to read them twice. Have fun though!

That had occurred to me too, but I think the mental comparison happens either way.

This seems like a good idea -- thanks for suggesting it! I'm always cycling through reading them anyway so no change there!
