kanye west once tweeted that he loved the line "i have never been so insulted in all my life" from fiona apple's sleep to dream, as he considered it a great way to start a song. turns out that's not the first line in that song, but i still think it was a good observation and wondered what other songs have neat first lines
but i guess you could also mention first lines from books and poems and whatnot
just to start things off, there's the classic "jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine", from patti smith's gloria, so there. your turn

the real first line in sleep to dream is "i tell you how i feel and you don't care" which is also a great first line! fiona apple has great first lines. i especially love "you wanna make me sick-- you wanna lick my wounds, don't ya baby?"
i might have mentioned it before, but John Donne's opening lines are like an awesome punch in the face, like the opposite of the monotonous rhythm that people claim for iambs and trochees. "Busie old foole, unruly Sunne" ; "I have done one braver thing than all the Worthies did" ; "For Godsake hold your tongue, and let me love" ; "When by thy scorne, O murdresse, I am dead"; "When I am dead, and Doctors know not why" ; "Thou art not so black as my heart, nor halfe so brittle" ; "Natures lay Ideot, I taught thee to love" ; "I never stooped so low as they" ; "Kinde pitty chokes my spleene; brave scorn forbids" ; "Tis lost, to trust a Tombe with such a guest" ; "Thou hast made me, And shall thy worke decay" ; "Spit in my face you Jewes, and pierce my side" ; "Batter my heart, three-person'd God"
all right, that's a bit overboard, but trust me that they're all great. as for more songs, how about "Man, she punched me like a dude.... hold your mad hands, I cried!" or "take a look at these hands!" or that other classic "HEY. been trying too meet yoo"

it's not even a really great line it just feels right and kinda sets the tone for the rest of the song

"I don't believe in an interventionist God But I know, darling, that you do" - Nick Cave, Into My Arms
even better in the context of the rest of the verse
"Like a bird on the wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free" - Leonard Cohen, Bird on a Wire
Kris Kristofferson wanted to put these lines on his gravestone
"Wasted and wounded, it ain’t what the moon did, I’ve got what I paid for now" - Tom Waits, Tom Traubert's Blues
And some fav Dylan openings: "God said to Abraham 'Kill me a son'" "'There must be some way out of here,' said the joker to the thief." "Perhaps it’s the colour of the sun cut flat" "How many roads must a man walk down before you can call him a man?"
