667ers as famous Halloween movies by Linda For this, I picked a movie that reminded me of each 667er. Some I know they love, others I'm not sure if they've ever even seen it, but each in each one, the movie and the 667er resemble each other. In no particular order: Trip as Hocus Pocus - It has witches and kids and a cat in it and I didn't ask her beforehand but I'm guessing she probably likes this movie a lot. Charlie as It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! - I can totally see Charlie unashamedly believing in the Great Pumpkin. He is also sweet and kind, just like Charlie Brown. Antenora as The Corpse Bride - I first heard about this movie because of her; she loved it and used the titular Bride as her avatar for a while. Zortegus as The Rocky Horror Picture Show - I already made him the main character in my fic, plus this is like one of the few Halloween movies with drag. Mister M and Anka as The Addams Family - The closeness of the family, and especially of Morticia and Gomez, reminds me of these two. Plus they're the only family besides the Millers currently on 667, and the only family by choice. Teleram as Beetlejuice - This is kind of silly but Teleram had this in his avatar at one point, I think, and ever since I've always thought of Teleram as looking like Beetlejuice. Kyle as What We Do In the Shadows - Both are kind of weird, cute and funny and hail from New Zealand. Lemona as The Babadook - Because I wanted an Aussie and the others are already cast, and also because even though this is apparently a really dark, frightening movie I haven't seen it so I think of a couple months ago when this movie accidentally got listed on Netflix as an LGBT movie and the Babadook became a gay icon overnight and people were posting really adorable fanart. It seemed like Lemona would appreciate both the dark and the adorable aspects of it. Dante as Dracula - This seems like the type of movie Dante would enjoy. It even stars a count! Hermes as Frankenstein - A classic horror film with a smart, philosophical theme for a classic 667er who is smart and philosophical. Terry as Young Frankenstein - Terry kind of reminds me of Gene Wilder for some reason, so I picked a movie he's in. Plus the film is black-and-white which probably helps give it indie cred. Bandit as The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - Brom Bones is who Bandit pretends to be on 667 and Ichabod Crane is who he really is. Or something like that. I just think he fits the movie. Tryina as Coraline - Visually the movie reminds me of Tryina's artwork, and the creepy storyline of her writing style. Peppermince as Teen Wolf - This is the Michael J. Fox movie, BTW, not the TV show. Apparently it's a comedy, and a metaphor for puberty, and Pepper was the youngest 667er I could think of. BSam as Clue - Other than the obvious (Sam's real last name is Boddy) this is a clever, humorous movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. Pandora as Heathers - I actually haven't seen this movie before but I think the first time I ever heard about it was when Pandora was talking about it so I associate it with her in my brain. Willis and Betsy as Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters (2016) - Willis is the original movie, Betsy is the all-female remake. They're both fun and silly and apparently very good at busting ghosts as I have yet to see one. Comet as Casper - Both are cute and friendly, and it seems like a movie that Comet might like. Sophie as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - I can totally see Sophie being into both the classic literature and the zombie parts of this. Lorelai as Wait Till Dark - A classic movie I saw a few years where the protagonist is blind, and Lorelai is also blind, so not too much or a stretch. I really do think this is a movie she'd genuinely enjoy though. Bryan as Shaun of the Dead - Of course Bryan would be a zombie movie, and I don't really watch those (I haven't even watched this one) but apparently it's a comedy? And I wanted Bryan to be a funny zombie movie. --TRICK O’ TREAT— 🎃 27 roses

BDG accepts that, in children’s literature, the story book form is the easiest to get right. Whereas a Big Daddy like Gomes can be at peace with lengthy novular (relating to a novel) tomes, the little rascal’s mind is always on the move and gets impatient in the lingering air; it’s got to be in the breeze as much as possible, a strong enough breeze to keep those pages flipping. There’s nothing worse than a “real page-turner.” Adults will primarily get excited for a “page-turner” when there are all sorts of clever twists and turns in the plot. Children might only be confused by that; instead they’ll deem something a “page-turner” by the grotesque oversaturation of action, in lieu of logical narrative progression. The BOOK may be an escape, but the STORY should not be. Indulging your child’s imagination in such a way is the equivalent of fattening him up on burgers and fries. “What’s the solution?” people always ask me (Big Daddy Gomes). Some of the more successful children’s novels are so isolatedly episodic that they deserve to be called short story collections. We apply that moniker to the two Winnie-the-Pooh books, but not the two Alice books, to The Wonder Smith & His Son but not to The Wind In The Willows. They’re successful not just for their episodic form, of course, but partly, because it keeps the indulgence at bay. A child has no lulls but also has no undignified plot concessions. That criterion for a children’s author, remaining a serious character while also knowing your audience, often slips away from novular (it’s an adjective) ambitions, but can be easily applied when writing or compiling a story book. Even the capitalists accidentally followed it well in the previous century, the heyday of the story book: by cheaping out with public domain material, they frequently chose much of the richest illustration and the most distinguished tales and rhymes; by slapping enough content together to fit 200 page hardbacks, they also gave us an imposing gallery of material. Through this gallery a child can peruse a book actually allowed to be perused, a luxury not available in the smaller, denser volumes that you could call novels. A story book has beautiful variety. One can draw from all sources, be they stories, poems, or the somewhat uncategorizable genre of didacticism for early childhood, the creative approach to numbers, the alphabet, the calendar, etc. through rhymes, wordplay, and/or panel illustrations. The story book is sprinkled with valuable objects of fascination, to be studied when stumbled upon. Since variety should apply to the art as well, the compilers will often and luckily avoid ugly illustration takeovers; instead, they will recognize the text as an already handsome image on the page, and use the art as quiet decoration. Occasionally, the large format of the story book can accommodate, quite stylishly, a full-page print. Girthy Papa Gomes recommends to you: Richard Scarry’s Best Storybook Ever; the Better Homes & Gardens Story Book; the Random House Book Of Poetry For Children; the Aesop For Children. 🎃---TRICK ER TREAT --- Death

---TRICK ə TREAT---🎃 Scented candles Snicketfic of the Month – A Halloween to Remember, by Emma Squalor For many years Emma Squalor was the leading figure of 667’s fanfic community. Her stories focused largely, as one might guess from her name, on Esme and Jerome Squalor, for whom she developed a rich fictional world: her Esme shows a gentler side than we know from Snicket’s work, though some passages in canon which show her with Carmelita are an inspiration for Emma’s vision of her. This story is a work of fanfanfic, set in the world of Tiago Squalor’s Yet Another Series of Unfortunate Events (and ultimately adopted by Tiago into the canon of that series); it deals with an incident in the early life of two Very Strange Children from YASOUE, Natalie and Nathan Finch, brought up in the Addams asylum. One Hallowe’en, on a trick-or-treating expedition with their mother, Natalie runs away and has a scary experience, but is rescued by a Esme who manages to be at once kind and villainous. This skilfully told tale is an excellent introduction both to Emma’s work and, if you don’t already know it, to Tiago’s world. 667fic of the Month – Giudecca, by Celinra On Hallowe’en 2004, Tragedy caused much confusion at 667 by rearranging the board. One day in the spring of the next year, some members took revenge by organising a scary event: the board was plunged into darkness, and 667ers received threatening messages from the mysterious ‘Giudecca’ (named after the area in Hell rather than the one in Venice). For some weeks after this there was much speculation about who was responsible, until the perpetrators revealed the truth by publishing this story, a fictionalised account of a real incident. The story features a Pandora very like the one we know today, and a Tragedy already talking about admin power surges; it provides a fascinating window on 667’s early years.

That 667ers as Halloween flicks list is *on point*.
Neat to see Bear Daddy Gomes continue his focus on children's lit. This article also reminded me of a nifty little essay on post-modern ABC books I've recently read.
I'm a bit offended I wasn't asked to contribute to the Halloween playlist, though, unless this was totally announced somewhere and I missed it? If not, then :[
