I finally saw these two episodes. I love Sunny, and I love that Hooky loves her too. That played into the audience knowing there was no way he was throwing her off the mountain. I never picked up on him being able to translate what she said right away in TBB, but my husband noticed it right away when we started watching together last month. I loved them cooking together!!! And Sunny tying her hair up with a ribbon to be like Violet was beautiful.
I didn't really appreciate the "Brucie" character. She was too cowardly and random. Also, how about the irony of Carmelita becoming an orphan? Ugh, she's awful.
I did like the hench people all leaving together; it made me like them more. They are a lot more likeable on the show than they were in the book. Hooky is still always looking for approval form Olaf, probably because he doesn't have the approval of his step-father.
I was shocked the freaks died! I never really liked them in the books, but sheesh. That was a bit violent for me, even if it was off screen.
I was surprised and excited but also disappointed the Duo are Olaf's "parental figures," which still strikes me as weird because in the flashback her clearly looks like an adult in his twenties. I was always hoping they would be his older siblings.
I loved Mr. Poe being there for Kit. I felt it was the first redeeming moment for him on the show, even if he was pretty hopeless about it.
Also, more and more I appreciate Louis Hynes as Klaus. He brings a bookworm to life as more than just a kid who loves to read and research. He's got attitude, too!
It's too bad they didn't have the waterfall break at the end of the episode - maybe they didn't have the budget for something so big?
Overall, I liked the episodes, but I felt they deviated too much from the book. I think it's weird the Duo is taking such a liking to Esme.
