I really did not like the scenes in Book 9, where the kids pretended to be freaks and got humiliated when they ate corn. They just stood there and let Olaf treat them like that. Why do they never get angry...?

I think all the times they have tried to confront him have ended badly.
TBB - Klaus confronts Olaf, Sunny gets locked in a cage. TRR - Klaus confronts Olaf, Olaf threatens them with a knife and profanity. TWW - they confront Olaf, Aunt Josephine gets thrown to the leaches. TMM - the girls confront Olaf, he threatens to tear their hair out with his bare hands. Also Klaus gets hypnotized.
