okay...first off, this is not a slam on any Christian on site, this is just my feelings on those few individuals that believe in "scaring the hell into people" I was in a department store looking at clearance Halloween items and lo and behold, some self righteous individual decided to place a "chick tract" on the shelf like it was an item for sale. the picture was a little girl dressed up as a witch and it was called the Little Princess. Here is the details if you feel the need: www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0063/0063_01.aspon their page is the following: When handing out Chick tracts on Halloween, consider the ages of the children when deciding which tracts to drop in their bags. Some tracts are designed for younger children, while others are better suited for teens. I am just beside myself, that these people feel the need to leave this stuff laying around in hopes of converting...and on HALLOWEEN no less... If you have nothing better than give these things to poor unsuspecting ghosts and goblins, leave your f'n light off! www.chick.com/seasonal/halloween/tractsuggestions.aspdon't get me started on the "Truth" About Pagans....

I just read the first one Yes, I'm Christian, I believe in the beauty and absolute wonderfulness of my religion, but I agree that this is going WAY too far. It's a sad and depressing story, and I don't like the way the information is laid out... it aims to guilt or bribe people into the religion instead of having them seek it out on their own. And on HALLOWEEN?! I agree with you completely. This is terrible. I think I'll read the second one now... By the way, what's a "chick tract"?

Chick Tracts are what those little comics are called, named after their creator, Jack Chick who is either pentacostal or Baptist. There are thousands of those on every subject from sex to drugs to rock and roll. Most of which can be found at the foyer of my church. For the most part, I just look upon these as embaressing. Although they are entertaining if your 8 years old and waiting for your parents to quit talking so you can go. Actually the Halloween stuff and especially his unreasoning grudge against role-playing games is embaressing, while every once in a while I come across something useful and informative. ie www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0055/0055_01.asp I've been reading this stuff long enough to have changed my mind four or five times. Right now I think that hammering certain points into young brains with a sledge-hammer only takes credibility to stuff that is otherwise factual and scientific. I don't have any particular problem with converting people at any time of year, although some of my friends from more extreme families have always been forbidden from trick-or-treating, so those who do trick or treat must be in need of a saviour, right?

Hum...thanks for the lesson, Pester. These really bug me though...especially this one. www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0011/0011_01.aspPEOPLE! Do they not research? Gah...let me look for that site...I came across a good one while researching for a report... www.new-life.net/halowen1.htmHum. I don't know if that's quite the right one, but I thought it was pretty informative. I found this same information on other sites too, so I can assume that it's accurate. Honestly, Halloween is not as horrible as Chick is saying. This is ridiculous.

Never not spell/grammar check something you write as a guest. There's no fixing that now.

Yeah...I know...it's awfully mortifying to go through and re-read it and see that big, silly mistake...I hate that kind of thing. I'm a total freak about that...
Ahem...anyway...

OK, this is freaky. Especially that Diary of an Unborn Child thing. They're teaching little kids about abortion?! WHY?!?!? I swear, "Am I saved?" 'No."

These people, if they are really saved, will get like ZERO rewards in heaven, for seriously clouding people's view of what God is really like.

I remember these things being one of the first things that turned me off about fundamentalist Christianity. When I was young and rather unifnormed someone gave me one and I remember thinking "What a scary, horrible religion."
The one I remember is the one where the man molests his daughter and gives her some disease, and of course when she realizes Jesus forgives all, her, her daddy and the neghbor who was looking to get in on it all share a big forgiving hug, and apparently live happily ever after.

it aims to guilt or bribe people into the religion instead of having them seek it out on their own. that is my point on most religions. My best friend is a very well-centered Christian. I'm of course not. When I have questions about things he'll answer them the best he can, I do the same...we never try to "convert" each other, we agree to disagree and that's it. But how many diffrent belief paths actively SEEK you out. Leaving materials at laundry mats and on store shelves, going door to door and the like. Why is it not enough that people be allowed to think for themselves and make their own decisions on what's right for their own spiritual identity? To seek their own answers? a radio evangalist once told me before his show ( I worked on Sundays producing the shows) that he was obligated to witness to me or my "blood would be on his hands" he knew nothing of my spiritual history, he just looked at me and decided I must be lost and needed to be saved. What a terrible world he has painted for himself...

it's fine they are trying to make us aware of their religion...
but yeah, it shouldn't be forced on people...

There were a lot of Muslim-bashing tracts also. That really ticked me off.
Having religious information in comic form is a great idea, because it can expose kids to something they may not learn about otherwise. But if you're going to show a little kid a comic strip about a dying girl, or a molester, or whatever, that's really going too far. They're prying into the emotions of the reader, and scaring the heck out of them.
I'm not sure if any of you agree with me, but a lot of the beliefs shown here focus not on being a good person, but on personal gain. These tracts make it seem like the main focus of Christianity is whether you live a happy afterlife or burn in Hell. Therefore, the ONLY motivation for you to be a kind and moral person is about what YOU get out of it... a place in Heaven.
If I have further discussion of this, I'll put it in the religion thread... I'm sorry...
Did any of you read the Chick Tract where this guy doesn't believe in Jesus and only cares about money, and by doing so causes the Titanic to sink?

One of the main points is to convert people-- that is our mission to tell people Jesus is coming back. I don't see why people are so annoyed by someone trying to share their beliefs, and I know no one likes to be told they are going to hell but it's like people don't even try to understand Christianity even though they say they do. If I came to your door, dressed in ceremonial robes, offering to tell you the good news of Gaia.... you would call the cops on me. It's not that Christianity is annoying, it's just the way it's presented. "Our way is the only way, and if you don't believe what we believe then you are going to burn in hell." Like Mamba said, I may go into the religion thread for the rest of this.
