Why does it seem that all the adults are complete morons? Even in the movie, Uncle Monty is my favorite and he just doesn't get it! So, question is this an exageration or does Mr. Snicket just have something against adults? Opinions? or answers...answers are good too...

Not all of the adults were complete looneys, but most, the ones who were placed in charge of the Baudelaires, are. I guess it's to make it so the three really have to do everything, and make it so they must overcome more challenges.

it's a satire directed at authority.

I agree with skyweaver, it's a satire used to indicate how alone the Baudelaires really are.

Adults are aged, Children are cool, Unfortunately they're stuck In a school! Or in the Baudelaire's case, under the care of incompetent adults that they have to obey.

Yeah, or perhaps Handler is just trying to make the kids feel good by telling them that adults are stupid. Or he's having a crack at children not being listened too. Or it's something darker, and it's Handler making an extreme parody of the stupidity of most people nowadays. I mean, everyone save the Baudelaires, the Quagmires and VFD is stupid, with a few cunning people like Olaf thrown in. And VFD seems to represent intelligence, like how they read a lot and discuss and have all these clever disguises and devices. Oh, how I wish there would be an organisation that picks up and employs smart people. Sadly, no such organisation exists, that I know of.

Could it be that Handler is trying to portray the belief that adults think that kids are inferior to them? I mean hasn't anyone noticed that freedom and rights in history has been faught for men, colored, other ethnicities, women, but not yet for children. He might be trying to imply that kids are capable of doing things and surviving as much as adults are.

good point, forlorn.

such an organization would be very dangerous.

Yes, all the adults are either evil, mean and no help, or nice but no help. In the case of Jacques S., he was in grave danger, so of course could not be much help. In the case of Kit, she's the exception.

I think they just act looney to challenge the 3 Baud orphans.

I think they just act looney to challenge the 3 Baud orphans. I doubt that. How could Josephine fake all those phobias, acting fearful to the point where she put the orphans in genuine danger?

I think that the adults (save, of course, for the villainous adults such as Olaf) are stupid because... Hm, I'm sure that Handler said something about this in an interview, now that I think about it. Anyway, perhaps it's to show that they've grown up too much, and no longer leave their minds open to new ideas and possibilities (contrast the Baudelaire children, who are flexible, resourceful, talented, etc.).
