What would you do if you could spend 5 minutes at lemony Snicket's desk alone?

I'd think "I really should clear off the heap of useless papers here".
That, or I'd paddle furiously till I reached the edge of the water reservior.

I'd start reading everything on the desk. Everything. And I'd look through all the drawers. I could spend hours there...

Grab all of the papers and files and put them in a briefcase, perhaps take photographs of a few things as well. Quite where I'm getting this briefcase from, when I don't own one, I don't know. Perhaps I can take Lemony's.

Is Lemony there at thetime? I'm assuming he is not as I doubt he would let a stranger to access his desk...Therefore I would leave a note, saying that I know the location of the sugarbowl, leave my phone number and then return home...then hopefully he will call me and hence I will have more time to discuss all the secrets which exist in this hurum scurum world

I would take close up pictures of every thing, never tuching anything. Due to the fact that Lemony Snicket is a detective he probably would be able to track me down.

I originally interpreted this question as "What would you do if you were Lemony Snicket and were at your desk?"
If I found Snicket's desk, I'd somehow investigate, but be careful not to disturb anything. And then I'd swim out of the reservior.

I would act like a child in a candy store. I'd probably sit there with my mouth gaping open from shock for about three and a half minutes, pull out my notebook, and take careful and detailed notes.

I would... stash everything. EVERYTHING. Every single paper and wet tissue in my boat. Even the typewriter!!! Then row out of the reservoir.

I would steal something for sentimental purposes, and then carefully photograph the front and back of everything the desk contains.

I don't know. I'd certainly take something, even if it was just a paperclip, so I could be like, "This paperclip once belonged to Lemony Snicket!" and gloat about my having one of his possessions. If everything was in neat piles, I'd most probably go through it, but if it wasn't, it would be rather difficult to put everything back the way I found it, so I might just glance at the stuff on top. If he had a xerox machine in his office, and everything was in neat piles, I'd probably photocopy the lot of it, and then go home and read it all. But either way, I'd probably feel strange going through someone else's stuff. Oh well. When I'm at Snicket's desk is no time to pay attention to my conscience...
