I'd steal book twelve and skim through the rest of the papers.

Read through the papers, take notes in my common place notebook. Probably take pictures, take 2 things of interest, keep one, and sell the other on ebay for BIG $$$. And steal book twelve, of course!

I'd take everything and stick it in a box then I'd go through the drawers and do the same.

I think I would get the title of Book The Twelfth, and be on my way, my quest satisfied.

I'd probably take pictures, note stuff in my commonplace notebook, nab one of the pages from book thirteen, and type a note to him on his own typewriter, via his own style. Maybe I'd insert the Sebald code.......
Probably I'd read through some of his stuff, then I'd row back out of the resovoir. (I just would wait for book twelve, since it's going to be out so soon. I wouldn't steal it because it'd ruin the mystery for me.)

Well, It would be terribly rude to go through Lemony Snickets possesions, you could damage crucial evidence, not to ention, would you like some one to sneak into your house and steal stuff from your room? Probably not. I would simply leave a note saying that I was willing to become a volunteer, and if he ever was in need of assistance, I would be happy to help. Thank You. Editor

I would turn around and walk out without touching anything because it is most likely a trap...And even if it was, he keeps all the important stuff with him on his travels...
Then I would bobsled to the nearest cabin in the mountains and find the yeti with the one black stripe and get the location of the REAL Lemony and then track him down and steal his briefcase which he most obviously keeps everything interesting in.
