I think that the settings remained consistant. Perhaps the reader is rereading too much and getting a Lemony Snicket overdose, and it seems stale because of it. No, I find nothing particularly wrong with the settings, although I did find it a bit hard to imagine Olaf's house. ^_^ So I imagined a dingy living room......

Sounds like a disease. Also the olaf house thing. i was having trobles too. I imagined a house dirty. But it was too dark. Then I imagined a house full of light but I couldn't see anything. Then I imagined A giant staircase that was rotting. That was the way from then on how I saw Olaf's house... A rotting staircase. ( ) ( ) (='.'=) (") (") (") (")

The books are getting kind of stale, IMHO.
Anyway, does anyone know what happened to Brian?

Anyway, does anyone know what happened to Brian? That's off-topic, but if I don't answer you then someone else will. According to his profile, he hasn't logged in since January. He hadn't posted for six or seven months before he made this thread. From my memory, he seems to come and go. Leave him be.

I think the storylines of the books has improved alot, sure Widdershins is annoying but maybe he is ment to, and yes you are never going to meet anyone like that but thats what makes the storys so much fun, you can't seen to understand why it could not happen in real life its ment to have that effect. Plus the 12th book made up for it and although i'm getting boredof olaf and esme i think lemony snickets story is now alot more interesting than the Baudelaires
