The Slippery Slope was a close second, but the best US art is The Carnivorous Carnival. The Erzatz Elevator is probably third.

I really like the UK TCC. TVV is probably my favorite, though, and I really like what we've got so far of book 12's cover.

For anyone who wishes to analyse the contents of a cover (not to be confused with merely saying "This one has X and Y and Z in it, which is why it rocks"), this would be the thread to do that in. Tricky. TVV looked pretty neat, and the THH art was also good (although possibly only in comparison to the British art). The American TSS and TCC were good, too... I'll even it out with Dupin and say TSS. I loved that tent, and the shadows within. (Best U.K. cover art was TGG, although TEE was good and TSS was very well-drawn.) Edit: Antenora's reminded me of something I meant to say. B12's cover art looks like it's going to be really cool.

I'd say a close contest between the American TGG and the Nameless Novel...
I loved the helmeted Baudelaires and the mysterious bearded man on their diving suits (remember we thought he was Jules Verne?), and the profusion of top hats in TNN is wondrous.

I disliked the UK TGG cover, it looked too rushed and I just didn't like it.
As for the UK, I like The Bad Beginning's cover, and The Erzatz Elevator. And The Slippery Slope.

I can't actually stand the U.K. TBB. Olaf's head is too large... Incidentally, Americans, for the British TBB cover, look to your Trouble Begins box sets. Oh Mr. Helquist, you were so lazy those days.
And I prefer the U.K. TGG to the U.S. TGG in every respect. Much better border, with all due respect - I'd be rather miffed to get waves twice, even if they are slightly different. Better poses, too. The only bad thing is that you can't see Melville's face. And I remember when you thought it was Verne...
The British TEE gave rather a lot away, but I didn't care; it looked good. And it must have been nice to wonder what on earth was going on when one bought the American THH.
Edit: Also, I think the American TCC is more interesting than the British. It has the lions on it, for one thing. Actually, that might be all that matters.
Edit Again: I only just noticed this, but the British and American TVVs are practically identical. I was under the impression that one of them had Violet on it, in place of Klaus. The American edition looks to have the better border, though.
Edit Once More: The British TAA has an ugly Carmelita and no Nero. It loses to the American edition.

TMM is pretty much the same too, but instead of Violet in the background, UK version has the Foreman Flacutono.
I remember when I was reading TMM, and because of the large Klaus head on the cover, I had several people come and tell me the book was a Harry Potter rip off. Pfft.

I remember when I was reading TMM, and because of the large Klaus head on the cover, I had several people come and tell me the book was a Harry Potter rip off. Pfft. I'd heard that a lot of people thought the same thing (although possibly I was just remembering you saying it from long ago). A better cover would have involved Orwell's eye-house, or Orwell herself. Or Sir. Or a busy scene inside the lumbermill. TWW vs. TWW: Boat vs. Window. I'd say that window wins, but I don't like the characters' expressions in that edition. It spoils the whole thing for me, really. And the British TWW has a neat wave, too. British TWW wins. In fact, why am I lying to myself? I'll just do a full comparison. TBB: U.S. wins. TRR: British, but not by much. And I never liked the way Monty was drawn. I'll always see him as he was in the movie. TWW: See above. TMM: British, because it has the bald man in it. But I prefer the American edition Klaus's expression. TAA: See above. TEE: See above. TVV: There's no difference. But it's a cool cover, and America gets a better spine. THH: No contest. America. TCC: America. TSS: They're both good, but individually good. TGG: Britain. T??: Well, the American cover so far is going to be difficult to top. I just hope we don't get something lame, like a character's head filling most of the picture.

I think the Trouble Begins boxed set is actually a bit different from the UK TBB; on the former, part of Olaf's head is outside the frame a bit. And I don't really like the covers(such as TMM) that have someone's head filling most of the frame.

I HATED the CC (US) but LOVED the UK one. I don't think the CC one captured the spirit of the book.

Here are my choices, although it was really tough to choose:
TBB: U.S. Wins. The cover is just more menacing. TRR: They're both pretty much the same, but the lime green spine on the U.K. version is nicer. TWW: Tough to choose. I'd have to say both for different reasons. TMM: Nearly the same, so I'd have to say that both get my vote, although it's not my FAVORITE cover.... TAA: U.S. indefinately wins. TEE: U.K. wins all the way. TVV: I like both of them. THH: Ditto. TCC: I like U.K.'s cover better, even though it's not my favorite story out of the series. TSS: Both! TGG: They're basically the same. The cover's really nice, though, on both of them.
