Did anyone notice that in The Ersatz Elevator, the everytime Jerome begins to speak about the Baudelaire's mother, Esme interrupts him. And when she tells the kids she wants to steal from them the way Beatrice stole rom her, they ask her what she's talking about, but she never answers them. We all know the Esme HATES Beatrice since she stole something from her(possibly a sugar bowl, or was it Lemony but Esme thought it was Beatrice.) If she interrupts Jerome everytime he talks about Mrs.Baudelaire, doesnt answer the Baudelaires question about Beatrice, then I really believe Beatrice must be Mrs. Baudelaire.

Supporting quotes:
“You’re adventurous! I like that in a person. Your mother was adventurous, too. You know, she and I were very good friends a ways back. We hiked up Mount Fraught with some friends-gosh, it must have been twenty years ago. Mount Fraught was known for having dangerous animals on it, but your mother wasn’t afraid. But them swooping out of the sky-”
---
“An auction,” Jerome explained, “is a sort of sale… It’s terribly exciting. Your mother used to love them! I remember one time-”
---
“Zisalem!” Sunny shrieked.
“My sister is right!” Violet cried. “You’re our guardian! You’re supposed to be keeping us safe, not throwing us down elevator shafts and stealing our fortune!”
“But I want to steal from you,” Esmé said. “I want to steal from you the way Beatrice stole from me.”
“What are you talking about?” Klaus asked. “You’re already unbelievably wealthy. Why do you want even more money?”

I think there is a posibility that beatrice the the orphans mother and that is what everyone else is saying. But i cant help thinking that this theory is incorrect, because beatrice died before the whole series started. But maybe there is a secret behind the story of her death or lemony is just making his words hard to interprate perposley. I guess maybe beatrice and lemony were dateing before beatrice met MR. Baudelaire. And that is why he is saying that he still loves her although she left him for her husband. It makes sense but on the other hand it just doesnt make sense at all.
P.S. M name is Quigley

But i cant help thinking that this theory is incorrect, because beatrice died before the whole series started. There is absolutely no proof that she died before the series started. All we know is that she is dead. No more. For all we know, Beatrice could still be alive at the moment, and she will meet her demise in book 12 or 13. Also, FFWF's quotes are interesting. If Beatrice wasn't your mother, why would you ask about the money first? But I will not warp this thread into another Beatrice one.

Esme's got a rockin bod. My theory is (not supported by anything in the books, just my theory) that Olaf picked her up when she was in her early teens, as the age difference between them is so obvious, and they act as though they've been together forever. Love is blind.

Lemony is always saying that Beatrice went with another man or something-possibly Mr. Baudelaire? And like Esme' wanted to date him, somethin like that, and so she and Olaf started the fire on the Baudelaire home. Just my guess...

THE WIDE WINDOW: p. 126 I have seen a woman I loved picked up by an enormous eagle and flown to its high mountain nest.It is a very strange coincidence that both Beatrice and Mrs. Bauedelaire have been carried away by a giant bird.

It is a very strange coincidence that both Beatrice and Mrs. Bauedelaire have been carried away by a giant bird. Many people have mentioned that clue. I'm not so sure about it. All it says is something came swooping out of the sky. It could have been a swarm of snow gnats.

Yup. It doesn't say what came swooping out of the sky, and certainly doesn't mention anything picking anyone up and carrying them away.
Edit: And TEE is pretty much the book for red herrings...

Do you think that snow gnats could kill someone? Their stings are painful, but according to TSS they're not really dangerous. Maybe if someone was allergic to them, they could die from the stings.
While the image "swooped down like a bat" doesn't seem to fit a swarm of gnats, once might imagine the swarm taking on the shape of a bat, and moving rather like one.
