On Thursday I have to finish up this ERB essay thing in class about the following scenario:
A large convenience store (like Wal-Mart or Target) is going to set up in your community. This will bring convenience to the people of community. On the other hand, the small family run stores might be put out of business. Defend one of the two sides.
I've already done 2 of the 3 required pages but I need more arguments.
Oh, by the way, I'm arguing FOR the megastore.
Anything you can give me will help. Thanks.

well, wal-mart sux IMHO. but if ur pro wal-mart just say its convenient, especially for the "stay at home moms", its cheaper, and it gives u free time so u dont have to shop all the time. thats all i got.

Thanks I didn't mean just Wal-Mart, just so you know. I meant huge chain stores in general.

I must admit that I love Target's conviente, sometimes cheaper, and it has quite a few things in one store. I think that in this arguement I'd have to side with the small stores. The people running them would have to find a new way to make a living. Finding a new job might take a while too and if it's run by a family and they get put out of business, that means practically no money(if any) is coming into the household. That's money that they come have used to buy food and stuff. Of course that isn't exactly true for all situations. If it's a large town, puting in a store like that might be a good idea. I hope you get the idea about what I'm trying to say. I'm not too good with words.

Where I grew up, the convenience came from the fact that Wal Mart was open 24 hours when other stores shut at 5 or 9. Even in a town of 30,000 they managed to stay open 24 hours for 10 years and counting. Unfair to small businesses, sure, but great for people who work at the other retail stores which close at 9, or those who work the night shift. In Australia, most stores aren't allowed to trade past 6 pm to allow small businesses a fighting chance. I appreciate what they're doing, but I have to say, I miss being able to shop for lip gloss 24 hours a day.
