Just how many references to religion are there?
1. When Sunny is bitten in TRR, Mr. Poe runs around like a headless chicken, yelling " Good God! Blessed Allah! Zeus and Hera! Mary and Joseph!"
2. Sometimes one of the Baudilaires tells the others to " Pray this works"
I can't think of any others at the moment, so try and find some!

I thought the "pray it works" thing was in TEE. However, I think one of the children says "Thank God" at some point in the early books, possibly in TRR. There's also a point in TGG where Widdershins starts yelling out the names of various divinities, as well as "Charles Darwin!" I'll look that one up later.
The Baudelaires don't seem to have a particular religion, and some have suggested that they've been through enough terrible events to end up atheist, assuming they believed in God(or many gods, one never knows) in the first place.

Possibly impling Count Olaf is a satanist. Which is a cute new angle.

Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, Southern Hemisphere, was named in honour of Charles Darwin, a scientist, if that helps. And any way, I often say, "lets pray like heck that this works." I think it's more of a figure of speech, now a days then an actually comment.

Charles Darwin would be about Orgin of Species, in which Darwin explains his theory about evolution. Some people believe in it profusly, perhaps leading it to be considered a 'religion'. Darwinism.

Well it's got be something regaurding faith. Think about it: where did the things that we evolved from come from? Apparently, according to evolution we came from monkeys which came from other mammals which came from birds which came from dinosours which came from...and on and on it goes. Eventually you get down to a single living cell. Where it come from? Was it the result of a reaction in a bubling soup of chemicals. Where did the soup come from? The big bang? What's the big bang? a bunch of stuff exploding. Where did the stuff that exploded come from? Was the unverse created by super intelligent aliens? Where did the aliens come from? It's like the old question "what came first, the chicken or the egg?"

It's like the old question "what came first, the chicken or the egg?" Chicken. Or as I call it, the "Oedipus Chicken"...Back on topic, though, here is a site about Charles Darwin, and see if you can spot any religious hints: Click

Captain Widdershins once says, "Dear God, Holy Buddah..." But he's probably just babbling as usual...

I say stuff like "Oh my god" and "I am praying that I'll get an A" or whatever, and I'm an atheist. It is often just a figure of speech.

Blasted furnaces of hell is wonderful. I think the refrences are, as everyone else is saying, just figure of speeches. But, if there is anymore reasearch you could do about this, it would be great to hear.

I don't think the Baudelaires are very religious, it'd be pretty obvious, wouldn't it?

This is what it said in TEE:
"What can I do?" Klaus asked. "You can pray this works," Violet said, but the Baudelaire sisters were so quick with their tasks that there was no time for even the shortest of religious ceremonies.
This doesn't really say whether the Baudelaires were religious themselves or not, but Lemony was certainly acknowledging the real meaning of the word.
