[glow=blue,2,300]While reading the first book "The Bad Beginning" , for like the fifth time, i realized on page 31 they talk about their parents running down the stairs because they smelt smoke from the toast Violet burnt. Is this possibly hinting at all occurences with fire and VFD in the later books? PS:Don't know if this has been posted before
2 More Days!!!! ;D[/glow]

It could be, but its extremely unlikely, since Handler only thought up V.F.D. in the fifth book because he didn't think that the books would sell well, and so only planned 4. Hence he had to write the BBRE.
And an idea rather similar to this one, referring to the toast, was brought up once, but it had a different punchline.

Hence he had to write the BBRE. Are you sure that Handler only thought of V.F.D. then? That just doesn't seem likely. Connections have been made with V.F.D. and the first four books. The possible foreshadowing with the toast is and example. Have you read an interview on this topic?

The possible foreshadowing with the toast is and example. Have you read an interview on this topic? I forget where I first heard it, but it's well-known that Handler didn't think the books would sell well, and he only thought that he'd be able to write four. When it became clear that the books were incredibly popular, he was able to write a full thirteen books, and expanded the plotline greatly. This explains why there was absolutely no reference to V.F.D. in the first four books. All the connections to V.F.D. were made up after the first four books had been written and were linked up to plot points that already existed, which is the reason why there are some astonishing chronological inconsistencies created by the Unauthorised Autobiography. Also, if Handler had had V.F.D. in mind all along, he wouldn't have needed to write the Bad Beginning Rare Edition. It all makes sense, if you actually take the time to think about it.

Yah, exactly what FFWF said. It could be possible he had a some planning done, but I guess he didn't feel it was worth expanding on right away...
But he was pretty smart, with connecting stuff from the early books later on. There's some point in them.

Hmm. I will take that into consideration. Good point.
