In mysteries, a red herring is a clue which misdirects or leads to a dead end. The contention is that Daniel is labelling the anagram CARRIE E. ABELABUDITE by putting NED H. RIRGER in the same list. If Beatrice turns out to be Mrs. Baudelaire, then you're right swans and the two have nothing to do with each other; if Beatrice isn't Mrs. Baudelaire, then it really was a red herring clue. Since 'is not' - 'is too' arguing won't convince me at this point, I fear I shall have to wait for book 12 or book 13 to get the answer.
