In TVV pg. 65 It says:
" 'The noises of the crows might sound strange at first,' Hector said, leading the way up the steps of the house, 'but you'll get used to them before long. I always leave the windows open when I go to bed. The sounds of the crows remind me of the ocean, and I find it very peaceful to listen to them as I drift off to sleep.' "
and it goes on a bit, but this is all that matters. So do you think this is connected to "The End" ? Might Mr. Snicket use it for the last book, if Hector returns? Discuss, unless if it has been already...

I think all that proves is that Hector might have grown up near the ocean, nothing really significant. If he does return, though, it might be tangentially mentioned.

This is extremely far fetched, but maybe, because of his apparent love of the ocean, he is related to Capain Widdershins, or maybe the woman in TGG who is swimming in th cave???

At the end of the day, I love the sound of the ocean but I've only been a few times (during the summer holidays). I neither live nor grew up close to the sea, yet I still find the sound it makes very theraputic.
I personally believe you're looking too much into the quote...

With any other book, I would agree with you, Utopia. But this is not any other book. Every little thing that Snicket mentions could connect us to another person or another clue, resulting in the unlocking of mysteries. Overanalysis is basically what this sight is about.

I disagree. I think that, in many places, the series has been vastly overanalysed, and I've recently found myself advocating a minimalist interpretation of the books. But that's not what this topic is about. One could interpret this statement ironically in light of Hector's watery fate, but I'm inclined to think it's more mundane.

Words and sentences sometimes have two meanings. But noone can realy know is this Hector`s sentence mean something special and enigmatic. Or this is simple and similar like blue clouds, sentence which everyone of us repeat hundred timer every day.
In this case, i think it`s just a melancholic Hector's mood rised up. And nothing else

welllllll i think that that vfd(village of fowl devotees)has a large connection to the other vfd(volenteer fire fighters)beacause in TSS olaf talks about the good vfders having the reptiles and the messenger crows(and duncan an isadora used the crows to send letters) so i think that the village of fowl devotees si a v.f.d. sanctuary and that mabe a large portion are a part of v.f.d. so hector could be a volenteer.
and if you right longer comments does it give u more dark dollars?
