I'm reading "Kafka", the novelization of the 1991 Steven Soderbergh movie. Better than Franz.

After breaking off last year to read other things, I went back to Maus and read it from start to finish. An amazing book, I'll definitely read it again.
But now I'm about to start The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

Update: finished The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and now I am depressed. It's lovely and beautiful but also a bloody miserable book in the bittersweet-story-about-a-toy-rabbit genre.

i remember in 3rd grade the teacher read edward tulane aloud to the class, but on the day we finished it we had a wretched substitute who didn't know the story so A) she ruined the emotional impact, and B) she tried to skip the Coda. i, who had already read the book, first had to badger her into noticing the Coda, and THEN she was like "but this is just summarizing the story" so i also had to force her to read to the end!! i don't think any of my classmates appreciated my efforts.

She didn't read the Coda??? Damn, what a terrible teacher. Why would one ever NOT read the Coda? I appreciate your efforts from afar (and from the future,I suppose).
When we studied 1984 in Sixth Form I remember being shocked when the teacher admitted to skipping some parts because she found them too complicated and/or boring.
