Alright, many people have been playing my A.S.O.U.E. Trivia Game, for the past two months, and this was the final question... Well, essay... For 50 points, each of the three contestants that made it to The Final Round had to write an essay on who they thought was the Baudelaire's mother. In the essay had to be three pieces of valid evidence, proving their theory, and each essay had to be atleast one paragraph long... So vote which essay is the best. The essay writers will be left anonymous, until I decide to lock voting, and then the true winner will be decided...
Essay 1
Who is the Baudelaire’s Mother?
Information had leaded us to believe that Beatrice was the mother of the three children, (the review in LSUA, the hospital patient list in THH) but there has always been a red herring anagrammed around the evidence. However, Lemony spoke to Beatrice at the ball, 15 years after they last spoke. That's enough time to marry, and have three children, the eldest at 14, surely? But then, all these clues that Mrs. Baudelaire was K came in. Lemony cares about his sister, so there is still a reason to research her children’s, his nephew and two nieces, lives. In the transcript, we hear K use a phrase Klaus uses in LSUA, there is a salad recipe that the Baudelaire mother and K used, but maybe that could be a V.F.D. recipe.
So I am very shook about when it comes to who I think is the Baudelaire’s mother, but are Beatrice and K really the only two suspects? I think that maybe Snicket is just messing around with us, getting us to argue. K or Beatrice, you ask? I say neither. I say someone different. I say that maybe, maybe the Baudelaire’s mother is her own person. However, I do think that Snicket has a connection. Is not the fact that the children might be recruited into V.F.D. enough? So, the mother is a member of V.F.D., in my opinion, maybe someone who did die. However, I think she might be Beatrice, and could be the survivor. We have heard Beatrice dies in a fire, but we have also heard she dies by being picked up by a bird. Maybe she survived the Baudelaire fire, and they will see her, as the survivor, which I do not believe is Quigley, in the last book. But then, in the last book, will she die for good, by a huge eagle, a V.F.D. eagle, sent by Olaf?
So, I believe that Beatrice is the Baudelaire’s mother, either that or they are both their own person.
Essay 2
Beatrice is the Baudelaire’s Mother
I believe that Beatrice is Mrs. Baudelaire for many different reasons, almost all are presented here. Why would Esmé steal from the children in order to get revenge on Beatrice if she was not related to them? That's what does not make sense. Plus when Duncan was talking about Jacques Snicket, in TVV, if K was the mom, their conversation would have been like this:
Duncan: His full name is Jacques Snicket.
Violet: That sounds familiar.
Duncan: I'm not surprised. Jacques Snicket is your uncle!
Instead of how it went like this:
Duncan: His full name is Jacques Snicket.
Violet: That sounds familiar.
Duncan: I'm not surprised, Jacques Snicket is the brother of a man who-
Angry Mob: There they are!
It just makes more sense for him to talk about their mom rather than Lemony, so that's my opinion. Here is some evidence that people have discounted with obscure red herrings:
1) Klaus says his mother's whistling specialty is Mozart's 14th symphony, and Lemony says in LSUA that Beatrice whistled that symphony in the play "The World is Quiet Here."
2) In TWW, Lemony says that an eagle swooped down and grabbed a woman he loved. While this could be his sister, Beatrice is the only woman in the series he refers to as a woman I loved. And Jerome says, in TEE, that a huge bird came and grabbed Mrs. Baudelaire, coincidence? I don't think so.
3) In THH one of the patients on the list is Carrie E. Abelabudite, which is an anagram of Beatrice Baudelaire, meaning she's Mrs. Baudelaire.
Alright, if you discount my Beatrice/Mom evidence that has a red herring even close to it, I've still got three good reasons why Beatrice should be the mom:
1) In LSUA, the duchess of Winnipeg says in her letter to Lemony "Of course, Beatrice is far past complaining about lost property, the very reason I'm sure you have dedicated yourself to researching those three children." This is as good as saying he's researching the orphans for Beatrice. If anyone else was their mom, he wouldn't be researching them for Beatrice now would he? Why research them for Beatrice? Because she's their mom!
2) "I want to steal from you, the way Beatrice stole from me." Esmé wants revenge on Beatrice, yet Beatrice is dead. So why would she take out her anger toward Beatrice on the Baudelaires? Because villains, if they can't get revenge on the person, often get revenge on their offspring. Why take out her anger toward Beatrice on three children who weren't related to her?
3) Lemony approached Beatrice, because he hadn't seen her in 15 years. This corresponds with Violet's age of 14, because Beatrice stopped seeing Lemony, married Mr. Baudelaire shortly thereafter, conceiving Violet.
More evidence on why K is not the mom:
1) K was an English teacher at Prufrock Prep, shortly after the Baudelaires left, correct? Yes, so if K had survived the fire and was the mom, what on Earth would she be doing teaching English, while the Baudelaires were with an enemy (Esmé)? The parents obviously cared so much about their children, so K couldn't possibly survive, then teach English while her children went back to the city. It doesn't make sense.
This concludes my essay. I have presented a variety of valid evidence that supports Beatrice being the Baudelaire’s mom and anyone who reads this, even though they may have a different opinion, still think about what I have said, because combined as one, this evidence is quite compelling, and difficult to toss aside.
Essay 3
K is the Baudelaire's Moter
Though there is much more evidence pointing towards Beatrice, too much of that evidence has a red herring. The picture in THH is from long ago. It has L, J, and both Baudelaire parents. Now if there are two out of three Snickets, why not three out of three? Maybe K is in the picture, as the Baudelaire mother. This is also, apparently, during the time L is accused for arson, because his back is turned to the camera, and because he was accused for arson, Beatrice would not talk to him, let along be in the picture with him, unless L was always camera-shy. The fruit salad in TSS, "It could be a red herring." says the naysayer. "But if this is a red herring, then can't any piece of Beatrice evidence be a red herring, too?" says the K-sayer. "….." the naysayer says, lost for a response, but then he finds one. "Don't be an idiot. There is a lot of more evidence saying Beatrice is the mother!" *snubs* Well, Lemony has a knack for surprises.
