"Hello Lemony." said avery familiar voice. Lemony turned around, and saw his sister, as always, wearing a huge glasses, pencil pushed into her bun. Wearing what she normally does. Her eyes stared at the sugar bowl. "Wow," she breathed, "You are getting it to-Beatrice?" she walked closer to her brother. "Yes, she asked you to come too." Kit sighed, and stared at the gray sky, "I know. Esme is very, very, angry. That is expected of course. Beatrice is doing something quite dangerous." Lemony turned, and began walking, having his sister following him, "Yes, but, it is right. Esme is an evil woman. She cannot have the sugar bowl." "One thing she loves more then fashion and money." The siblings walked through misty air.

Beatrice
Beatrice walked quickly down the street, pulling ehr coat closer to shield herself from the strong winds. Her heart was pounding hard in her chest. She couldn't have doubts now.
But should I really do this?
The questions circled faster, mkaing her even more nervous. She took a deep breath, attempting to clear her thoughts. She saw two familiar figures through the mist in the distance, and walked even faster to catch up with the pair. She lightly tapped Kit on the shoulder, walking beside her.
"Hello, Kit." She greeted her friend softly, looking down as she walked. She raised her eyes, and they locked with those of Kit's brother. She felt her heartbeat quicken when her eyes met his. "Lemony."

Lemony smiled at Beatrice weakly, feeling his pulse stricken slightly. That can't be good, he thought. "Good to see you," he said warmly.
The trio walked briskly, as the charcoal sky threatened to explode with rain at any moment. There was no point in attempting to converse, as the wind was two loud to hear any thing but the breeze crashing with their ears. They soon reached the drearier district of the city, where gloomy buildings towered over them. Dark Avenue was only a few blocks away, but Lemony found his courage stooping.
"Maybe we shouldn't go," he said, not daring to look at Beatrice, but instead staring intently at his sister. He didn't want to sound as though he was frightened of Esme Squalor, so he added hastily, "Why is Beatrice even coming? She was the one who stole the sugar bowl in the first place, shouldn't she stay behind in case Esme decides to hurt her in some way? And why-"
Kit opened her mouth to talk, but Lemony silenced her with a wave of his hand. "Why should we give this thing back? I say we keep it. Forget about the damn deal. Let's just run for it."

Kit stared at her brother-then looked away. "I hate what that thing caused us. People, good, people are now dead because of it." She sighed, and looked at her friend. "We might as well keep it away from Esme Squalor." Lemony wrunged his hands, looking down, "Beatrice, I-" Beatrice was now putting on sunglasses, At this time of day? And weather? thought Kit. Beatrice smiled meekly, "You thought I was going to give it back, weren't you?" she carely took the package away from Lemony, and continued, "I need to...um...talk. To her. I need you there. Well-it is hard to explain. But-" Lemony frowned, "Beatrice," Kit almost could see his hands shaking with fear, "We really shou-" Beatrice smiled. Lemony stopped talking. Then the three of them walked to the building. They knew where the door was. But they weren't going to it.

Beatrice clutched the package tightly in her hands. She could tell that Lemony was afraid, and she was as well. She simply tried to hide this from him. Beatrice stopped once they reached the building.
"So now what do we do?" Her voice suddenly lowering to a mere whisper. "I thought we were going -"
"I think you know what we're doing." Kit replied. Beatrice's heartbeat quickened. Could she mean...
She looked up, seeing the fear in Lemony's eyes. Was there something he wasn't telling her? Or were they both hiding something? She opened her mouth to ask, but stopped herself. It could wait. They were here for a reason.

Lemony shuffled uncomfortably on the spot. He could just see the doorman's coat, sticking out from behind the glass sliding doors. The arms covered his hands, which Lemony assumed would be clutching excerpts from his diary, as usual.
"How are we getting in?" Beatrice demanded, having received no proper answer from Kit.
"We can't pass the doorman," Lemony explained, "because he would recognise Kit. Esme ordered for her never to be allowed entrance into the building again."
"But she invited her to a party in the penthouse apartment," Beatrice said uncertainly.
"Yes, but she doesn't exactly want anyone to know. So..." Lemony hesitated, breathing deeply. "We have to climb up the side of the building. For the first story, anyway."

Kit frowned, looking at her shoes. Beatrice smiled, "Are you afraid of heights, Kit?" and received an angry glaces from her. "No. But-" Beatrice sighed, "Kit. Not here. Not now." She looked up, "Lemony, I am not sure that would not be the best of all choices. No. I once done," she pause, as if the bad memories were coming back to her, "it. To do something quite important. It will not work. The doorman is a little smarter than the rest." Lemony frowned. What could he be thinking of now? thought Kit. She wished her brother didn't keep to himself all the time. But of course. He was unlike Jacquas, who would say anything he thinks. Kit took a deep breath, "I know exactly what to do." And she hoped she did.

"Alright, then what's the plan, Kit?" Beatrice questioned. Kit sighed deeply, letting her hair down, which she never did unless she was deep in thought. She seemed survey the building for a long moment, then turned to her friend and her brother.
"Well, I thought we could-" Kit's voice was suddenly drowned out by an extremely loud alarm that seemed to come from nowhere. All three of them jumped in surprise.
"What is that?!" Beatrice screamed over the alarm's roaring, hands over her ears.
"I don't know!" Lemony shouted back. The threesome looked around for the source of the loud noise. Suddenly Kit pointed at something in the distance.
"Look at that, over there!"

Beatrice followed Kit's finger, and saw a large fire truck, racing to the end of the street. Kit heart began to pound. Lemony took a deep breath, "Kit," he said finally after the dreaded noise was finished, "Please tell us your plan" Kit sighed, "Not here." and walked to a brush, brushing away the leaves and branches, Lemony and Beatrice saw a trapdoor. Kit pulled a key out of her pocket, then unlocked the door. "Follow me." and they went into the darkness.

"It's dark," Lemony observed lamely.
"No kidding," Beatrice said, rolling her eyes.
They fumbled down through the damp tunnel for several minutes, before Lemony attempted to make conversation.
"So.... Kit, how's your week been?"
"Stop trying to converse," she sighed wearily. Lemony shut up.
They walked further. Lemony felt his foot fall through a small root, and he tripped.
"Lemony!" Beatrice shrieked. "Are you all right?"
Lemony shook his head, trying not to cry out in pain. "No," he moaned. He looked up at where Kit might have been. "You've caused enough trouble," he said. "Just tell us the stupid plan."

Kit bit her lip. Knowing he might not make it through. Beatrice kneeled beside him, "Are you okay?" Lemony gave her a annoyed look, even though she probably didn't see it, "I am fine." He wasn't even close to that. Sitting beside Beatrice, Kit felt around his legs.
They were broken.

"Oh, stop being stubborn!" Kit cried out. "You've broken your legs!"
"You're avoiding what I asked. Just tell us your plan!" Lemony snapped, trying to change position in the earthen tunnel. He winced as he moved his legs.
Kit blatantly ignored her brother and instead tried to tend to his broken legs. "Would you stop moving around? You're only making it worse. And keep your voice down. We're right below the lobby!" She whispered.
"Kit!" Lemony cried out, as loud as he dared. "Don't worry about me! How are we getting out of here?"

Kit began to drag Lemony by his left arm through the tunnel. "Stop- fidgeting-"
"What the hell are you doing?" Beatrice asked. "You're going to dislocate his arm, too."
"Are you saying it was my fault his leg's broken?"
"Which one is it, out of interest?" Lemony asked, coping with the pain considerably well.
"I can't tell," Kit said. "Now let's get you out of-"
"For God's sake!" Lemony cried. "Esme's expecting us in a quarter of an hour. Just go on. Tell her I'm busy."
Kit scoffed. "You have no life," she said. "How could you ever be busy?"

Kit stared at Lemony. She could also say that he needs to get a social life, but she rather not fight. Squatting down, she turned her head, and listen to the voices above. "Where are-" "I-" "It is not in-" "I-----don't"
Kit took a deep breath. It was Esme.
"Well..I--"
It was hard to hear what they were saying. And to make it worse, Lemony began to groan very loudly.
"Are you okay, Lemony?"
"Yes."
Kit frowned. "Shhh." and began to listen.

"They should be here by now," Esme was saying to someone. Her voice was very muffled, but Lemony assumed that this was because of the walls blocking her out.
"I em getting seeck of vearing zis mask," came a deep voice. It was heavily accented, and Lemony had trouble deciphering it.
"Not much longer," Esme assured him. "All that will happen is that the three of them will walk through the door. One of them will switch on the light, and boom, out comes the gas. They'll be dead within the minute. And we, safely hidden under out masks, will be fine."
Lemony gulped, now knowing why Esme's voice sounded so muffled. "They're going to kill us," he whispered.
"Shut up," Beatrice said angrily.
"Ah, Esme," came the man's voice. "Vhere vould I be wizout you?"
Esme's shrill, piercing laugh bounced off the walls. "Dead," she cried wickedly.
